This is the point.

They lost 6 of their last 8 games - and 8 of their last 12 - last year to miss the 8 by 2 points, and would have easily had the points diff to make it.

So nothing's actually happened to them, and the 'Wayne effect' is actually null and void, because they were never a top 8 side to start with.

Terrible might be a bit harsh. They were in it for both the Rabbitohs & Tigers games, leading at points in the second half in both. They've just been unable to close off games but haven't been blown off the park.

Terrible is a term I'd reserve for the likes of the Eels & Cowboys (the later actually played Finals last year) who haven't been games at all.
