Yeah the NSWelsmen on here get pissy when I bring up all the premierships so I stick to the first grade ones... Which they still get pissy about, but, as you well know good sir, facts are that QRL / BRL was first grade equal to NSWRL when the Phins won in 1965 and 1994.

It’s the nrl to blame

Dragons premierships are shown separately to the jv

Same with tigers

Probably worthy of it's own thread but has the Bennett Midas touch finally worn off? Souths travelling poorly while the Dolphins are flying high.

Bennet is 87 years old or something.

His thing used to be creating a great environment and teaching players how to be better men etc. Caring father figure, hard but fair etc.

Now after umpteen clubs and so many decades it kinda seems like he just doesn't really give a shit anymore about a club or a player and I think they can tell.

Clubs can claim whatever they want to make them feel good.

Same way Port Adelaide can claim their 30-odd SANFL premierships.

As long as the NRL doesn't recognise them, they can be counted separately but not together and you can sit back and argue with the Storm and dragons fans till the cows come home.

Meanwhile ill sit here and hope they dont strip 1997 from the Knights. We're just lucky they count that as a full premiership when it was only against half a comp.

IMO it'd save a hell of a lot of arguments if the NRL just did it like the NFL, and drew a line in the sand. Whether that's 1995 or 1998 is probably up for debate. Everything prior to that can be claimed as "pre-national competion" premierships like the pre-merger NFL/AFL championships.

But given the Sydney centric nature of the competition I dont think its going to happen any time soon.

1995 is probably a good option, when the ARL was formed to demote the QRL/NSWRL to second grade and replace them as a single first grade comp.

Panthers 5
Broncos 4
Roosters 4
Storm 4
Manly 3
Newcastle 2
Bulldogs 2
Cowboys 1
Dragons 1
Sharks 1
Tigers 1
Souths 1

How the NFL and NRL were formed were completely different. The NFL were an amalgamation of 2 competitions, the NRL isn't an amalgamation but a continuation of the NSWRL with new teams invited to play at certain points of its evolution. Although that is not to say that the QLD comp was not strong in the days when Lewis, Meninga, Miles, etc played in it.

Well, whether you like it or not, QLD (and NSW) Cup was officially first grade until 1995. The ARL was formed to supersede both for the 1995 season.
You're playing at semantics. The reality is that at the very latest, 1987 was the last year you could consider the 2 comps on the same level and thats being generous. Once the Broncos and Giants came in to the NSWRL the "QCUP" was rendered 2nd rate.

Everything else is pure fantasy

Like I said, whether you agree or not, QLD Cup was a first grade comp until 1995. At that point, both it, and the NSWRL were relegated to second grade and superseded by one single first grade comp, the ARL.

You're either being obtuse or just not very smart

Either way good luck to you
I'm just telling you the facts mate. Regardless of the quality difference, Q Cup was a first grade comp in 1994.

If that has you confused, I've got another one that might shock you. NRL is heaps better than Superleague in terms of quality and the Superleague is a first grade comp today.

Not confusing at all, not for anyone who's sane anyway

After 1987 the "QCup" was a feeder comp to the Broncos and Giants reserve grade sides. It wasn't "1st grade" at all no matter how many times you repeat it. Its no more "1st grade" than the QCup is today
