League heartland my arse. All games back to Leichhardt if you blokes cant raise enough cash out there to pay for a ticket.... What a disgrace.

Do you support the Wests Tigers now :?:

No and i never will, however it is cold hard fact that i am not getting Balmain back in the NRL in the near future, if ever. I therefore am concerned that Balmain DRLFC's money is at least going to be used effectively within the JV. The better Wests operates as a company the less they will need from the founding partners in order to operate (unless they are using the funds for some sort of growth/success project).

My hatred has reduced, but i will never follow them unless Balmain become the majority shareholder (which would not make it a JV anymore).

i just observe their operation from time to time.

I think that even if Wests makes more money from the double headers (which i doubt based on the last turnout for the double header that was somewhere near 25-30k), they then make less money from the next couple of home games.

"Build it and they will come"!!!!

They play at Telstra for free so there are no costs involved and they actually get paid to play there so Telstra can offer their members something to watch. No matter what crowd they get, its more lucrative to play there at the moment.

I agree with the points about Canberra not drawing a crowd but with everyone complaining we don't get enough games at Campbelltown and Leichhardt, it is disappointing when we can't even get 10000 of our own fans to a home game on a nice sunny Sunday arvo.

Sure the numbers were down but from where i was sitting it sounded great,The 8000 that were there really got behind the team and and the ref's back on numerous occassions.

Given the JV is guaranteed a net income on its games at Christchurch and Telstra there will continue to be pressure to take games away from Leichhardt and Campbelltown. Good attendances at the grounds are vital to make that harder to get up. 14,500 against Manly at Leichhardt was excellent - last years average was only 8900. The Campbelltown crowd figure is a big worry. There should be reasonable crowds at Leichhardt for the Eels and Souths games, but against Melbourne it will be a different story. But we cant afford to give the JV Board the opportunity to play the financial card.

Bald,

The problem is as i mentioned, is you cannot except big crowds to turn up to Leichhardt if a game is only on once every couple of months. People are creatures of habit.

Season Ticket Holders and Both Campbelltown and Leichhardt are already counted before people start walking through the turnstiles. In regards to Junior and Adult Season passes, they should be made to walk through the turnstiles. I don't know why this isn't being done.

In regards to the poor crowd figure last sunday. Being brought up on the Hill at Campbelltown Sports Ground as a kid, it hurts to see such a lame crowd. Speaking to Lochie who is a resident in the area, i asked him about the marketing and promotional activity the club does in the Macarthur-Campbelltown region. He gave me a simple answer....'Not enough'. Wow, the team appears at Macarthur Square once duing the week leading up to a Campbelltown Home Game. Sure they get some coverage in the local newspaper's, but seriously, that's as far as it goes. From a business perspective, this is barely enough.

The marketing department at Wests Tigers need to seriously have a look at themselves and their marketing strategies towards the fans and the area of Campbelltown. To me, it sounds like that if i was a Wests Tigers supporter living in the area, i'd be asking the question why should i turn up to the game? The club hardly attempts or tries to associate itself with the community and area on a regular basis. And with the club playing in the area not on a regular basis it makes it harder for fans to appreciate that the Joint-Venture is apart and representing the area.

Everyone knows that success will bring fans out of the woodwork, but still, its not like Wests are struggling. The Tigers are in the top 8. the closeness of this year's competition is shown by taking a look at the ladder. So can this really be blamed as an issue for fans not wanting or willing to rock up? I think not. As stated above the area has the potential to i think, become a Newcastle. It's rich in junior talent, population growth continues to rise, and has the facilities in place to acommodate 20,000 people. The club must address this issue sooner rather than later.

In the early and mid 90's crowds at Campbelltown were great. The Magpies were accepted and being treated at the community and area's team. People associated Western Suburbs as being the Macarthur-Campbelltown region's home. And the Magpies were proud to be based in the area and did everything to make sure that they community and its new supporter base accepted them. The fans felt attached to the Magpies. This is something Wests Tigers have failed to do. It is hard, as the essence of a Joint-Venture is to show equality to both sides. It's a pickle of a situation to be in, but they must start showing more commitment to the area, hence, the support will increase for the club overall.

I'm pretty sure free tickets are not supposed to be counted in crowd figures - which would explain about the junior pass holders

Gobbs,

Do you seriously think that a team deserves support if it plays in an area 5 times (i think that is how many times they play out there this year). By moving around they may secure more revenue in the short term, but they certainly will not retain the local fans. It is probably time for them to bite the bullet and pick a single location to play their home games if they are going to play other games at Telstra and NZ.

I imagine from a Wests fan's point of view, playing at a venue half way between the two foundation clubs 9-10 times a year would be better than 4 or 5 at Leichhardt and Campbelltown.

I agree with tigger on this (this might be a first). A team playing in a Rugby League heartland like Campbelltown deserves more than what it is getting. But, we all know thats not possible. As Gobbs also was saying, Campbelltown has the potential of been like Newcastle in respect to getting a community behind it.

The more you play in your community, the more you promote the game in that area , the more you get out there and show who you are -- the more it will keep local fans interested and coming to the games.

This is the toughest thing been in a JV. One part based at Campbelltown the other at Leichhardt. What's the answer ? IMO for the time been there is no answer. The club is rebuilding from the mistakes of the past. Success on the field, surely will bring success off it. In time this question will be answered, some fans will be lost but many more will ride this out. The JV has shown part of its hand by taking games away from both home grounds.
