Do you think I shouldn't have asked about deleted threads?

I feel a bit scared like a naughty schoolboy.

Soon you'll be asking what happened to the "What's going on ?" thread.

Obviously us Nazi's dont need to explain why we do things but if you must know, the original 3P thread had to be removed due to guideline violation and the moderator did the right thing in removing it as it was getting out of hand, no point in deleting everything that is posted, may as well remove the thread.

I posted in the 3P thread asking if we could please respect the rules so that the discussion could run its course but it didn't so we had no choice.

Shame really because every thread about 3P gets removed and so issues never get resolved.

Wow, I hate missing all the action.

Or more to the point, being able to read what lead up to it. Sure, delete the offending posts, and lock the thread so that offending discussion ceases. But to take away all the valid posts too... :(.

Thanks Twizzle.

I agree Bart. I was interested to read what Sevens had said. His posts are very informative to someone like me who has no idea what us going on.

that would be ideal but we dont have the time to babysit any thread that can cause us trouble, in this case libel and defamation

it only takes one post to cause trouble and we make the judgement call to remove it rather than put ourselves in a vulnerable position

it would be so much better if we could all just get along

Sure Twiz, not having read the thread today I can't comment on the contents I haven't been able to read. It is a shame all round.

Normally there is so many posts to read of an evening - with that entire thread deletion, I've actually managed to read every post made today in the Eels section in record time (and I don't normally get around to reading everything).

Deleting entire threads (instead of just the offending posts, or banning troublesome members) will turn this place into a ghost town imo, and mean people spend less time on LU, less time being exposed to adverts, less time feeling involved with, or contributing to the Eels forum community...

Oh well, as there's no longer anything else left to read, I'm out of here for the night .

I don't know why the "lol thread" was deleted but. I didn't see anything offensive there.

to answer your question, it wasn't offensive but we dont normally tolerate people complaining about mods, their job is hard enough

its like players complaining about the ref, it isn't tolerated

I'm not suggesting the mods dont make mistakes, they are human like the refs, but we just dont allow it

if anyone would like to come up with a better suggestion I'm all ears

Delete the posts that breach guidelines, infract the members, post a warning in the thread and lock it, but keep the remainder of the posts visible.

Basically, model how you want people to behave on the forums, and leave the guideline interpretations visible in the relevant locked threads, as a warning to others (rather than delete that from view and prevent the ongoing education of the forum community).

Takes time in the beginning, but if applied consistently then it will pay off. (Or the repeat offenders will soon rack up enough infractions to be banned if they don't adapt their posting style.)
