What's our backline depth like with Kingy gone?

Well, after losing the likes of Hill, King, Aubusson (a prospective 5-8th), Samau and Webster over the past few years, our backline is arguably less 'cushy' then it has been in the past!

I'd say our backline would look something like this next year (assuming Matty G retires this year),

1. Slater
2. Turner
3. Folau
4. Quinn
5. Chambers
6. Inglis
7. Cronk

It's still a star-studded backline, but where we had the likes of Folau and Chambers as 'backup' for injuries and Origin both this year and last year, who will we have in reserve next year?

To be honest, i've heard alot about some quality young forward depth that we have coming through (Thompson, Proctor, Tolman etc), but who do we have coming through the ranks who is a back?

Peter O'Sullivan! Where are you! ;-)

Shortland has been around for a while, but I'm yet to see anything worthwhile there. Anthony Perkins, Sam Joe, Josh Tatapu, one of these guys has to step up. Although I wouldn't assume that Geyer retires either, I reckon he will play on again next year.

i dunno how we'd fit webbo in, as its unlikely that matty geyer will leave til his contract is up. even if he does, he has a lot of talent ahead of him now. Next year (with geyer) it'd be:

1. billy
2. geyer
3. folou
4. quinn
5. turner

and there's still shorty and chambers.

but on the same token, i was so pissed off when i heard he was going to the tits.

I wouldn`t mind betting that Jake Webster returns ???

Rose coloured glasses anyone. Jakes defence was average surrounded by stars and now he's only got half-decent players around him its exposed even more. I'll take all our young players over some-one whos on a one-way ticket to the ESL.

Great point, Noa.

Having watched Jake for the first time for the Titans tonight, he clearly has learnt nothing from playing in defence for us last year.

Still comes up way too early and makes stupid off-loads at inopportune times.

Chambers will be a better option within a year.

I'd love to have Jakey back. We let him go far too easily.

I don't really agree with that. He made it known that he was looking at the market to see what it had to offer (which he was more than entitled to do) and when he did that's about when we signed up Quinn which more than likely left no room for Webster salary cap wise.

I remember Jake was a bit dirty on the club for their "treatment" of him but i had no problem whatsoever them signing someone else as insurance if he left. In that situation the club has to look after themselves before a player who's thinking of leaving. We got burnt when Kimmorley took the money and ran so they didn't want to see that happening again and i don't blame them for one second.

The bottom line is that if Jake never tested the waters to see what he could get and instead just said he wanted to stay with us then i've no doubt the club would've re-signed him and he'd be still playing with us. But he made his choice and now he has to live with it.

Slightly OT but the best thing for Jake not to go backwards in his career would be to make a move into the back-row probably at lock.

Defending in close is alot easier then out wide, its the reptition in close that makes it tough. Jake struggles when he gets in those one-on-one situations.

I'm sad to see kingy go bt the fact of the matter is there are 2 outstanding yong prospects waiting in the wings to take his spot.

The best bet is that Israel Folau moves into the centres with Chambers on the wing or keep izzyon one flank with chambers in the centres or sap them over from time to time.

Also the O'Sullivan factor; he'll come up with a gem a la ingliss and Folau next year as well I reckon!

All the Reds and Waratahs got by way of reply was a letter from the Storm, telling them to stop pestering one of their contracted players.

As much as I dislike union you aren't a half decent player if you went to Nudgee College.... theres a chance you'll be a farkin' superstar!!

Good one Pete! Interested to hear a bit more about this kid in future!
