If Andrew isn't happy, then let him either retire or go somewhere else, if we keep him, we won't be able to keep some of our other senior players who are also off contract, and lets face it, we have proven we don't need him to win, and he has had too many injuries in the past few seasons. I would love for us to be able to keep him here, but lets be realistic about it!!! We have to think about the club's future, and how many more years do u think he will play, not too many more i'd say, i reckon he is only a few years off from retiring, and we need young talented players to keep coming through the ranks!!

If his not happy, then his not happy... I agree with Gidsgal, let him go, as I have had said in other posts... I would much rather keep our babies then spend a fortune on keeping him happy.

it would be a shame if money is the deciding factor for him in making his decsion. althou everyone has diffrent things that drive him.....but who is to say that the paper is not blowing this out of proportion.....if we can fit all the players under the cab and those that can, take pay cuts that would be awesome...but i dont live in a perfect world so we will just have to wait and see.

he was the bloke who went on television a matter of days after another season ending injury - after taking $475K for 3 rounds work - saying that he was going to do whats best for him. that spells out money in part to me.

he's worth $500K? how can he be worth more than he has been over the past 3 seasons where he has been unable to complete a season? we havent seen him in finals football in 2 seasons now.

the club has to offer him the maximum they are prepared to pay, and if he's not happy - the tell him bad luck and move on.

Johns starts his rehab for the knee this week. Not sure what he'll be doing. Probably just pool work at this point. Surely he's just trying to get some new pics of him looking trim from the heart clot scare, and going through some fitness routines for the newspapers.

That will make some more chins wag about him and his future.

I'd rather buy a new car or upcoming model rather than a tired old datsun which can't get me to it's final destination.

Just like Joey, he can't win us a premiership anymore, so why pay for an injury prone player? I'd rather put the money towards developing the next Johns.

If Johns wants to go to rugby union and get paid 500k a season then let him. But I'm sure he won't last long in that game as he would get hit harder in the rucks and mauls.

We need to tread carefully.

I would still 1000000% prefer to keep him. The effect Joey has had on players around him is immesurable. I credit him with much of the development of Bedsy and Kidley. Look at the way they play and you can see his influence. Another 2-3 years and our future will be secure for a long long time.

However, we need to secure our future superstars too.... if we lose any of the new guys coming thru (or our SG Ball stars) I would not be happy...

There-in lies the problem, we have been losing promising future players for quite some time now, the list is as long as your arm, and in the majority of cases you can link it back to the cap of which Johns takes a considerable amount. The reports in the paper (if true) are disapointing in that he's insulted by the clubs offer, sure he would be valuable to have around and pass on his knowledge to the guys coming through, but if we pay him the money he's asking half those guys will be gone. Johns needs to consider the money he's been able to make through the club since he started here, there's no doubt he'd be a millionaire by now with his footy earnings plus the money he would be getting outside the playing contract, ie:- endorsements, advertising, media etc. It's not as though he's hard up for a dollar, if he was then it would be a little different, it really gets to me that he thinks we owe him something, he needs to remember it's a two way street, he needs to sit down with Billy Pedan, and have a chat, maybe some of Billys' loyalty will rub off on him.

Brad Fittler came to the realisation towards the end of his career that he was not worth top dollar, and as such reduced his contract with the Roosters from $500K per season to $300K - for that the Roosters got him playing for them only - no Origin, no rep footy at all.

At a similar age Johns wants us to pay a premium, for a broken down body who for the last 3 years has had season ending injuries well short of the finish. It's time for him to wake up and face the realisation that while he is still one of the top players in the game, he is incredibly poor value at $500K per year and no one will pay it.

Well there is a guy who plays for a Sth African team ( i think the stormers) who makes Matt Parsons look like a midget. Plus he weighs a lot more too. Joey would be crushed if he was in the wrong position and this guy got him.

Not too mention hard hitting kiwi's like Jerry Collins who have ended a bloke's career in a single tackle.

2 guys does not a comp make....

Im sure there are big guys in union.

But being big and hitting HARD are two different things.

Otherwise Parso and Mason would be the big hitters, not Wiki etc.... and look at Gillespie - one of the hardest hitters of all time, and im bigger (weight and height) than he is!

Joey would be crushed in the wrong position if any sizable forward hit him, league, union, AFL, NFL.............

Union is still a game for people not tough or skillful enough to play league... look at Sailor....
