I've noticed from people's avatars and other discussion that there's a fair few metal fans on this forum (myself included). What genres of metal is everyone into? Favourite bands? Picked up any cool albums lately? Any bands/genres do you really dislike?
For me, I'm mostly a fan of Black/Death metal, generally of the more necro/underground persuasion. (I don't dig melodic Gothenburg type death metal or symphonic black like Dimmu Borgir much). I've got a thing for some Doom as well. Too many faves to mention but a few would be Autopsy, Emperor (early stuff) Nile, My Dying Bride, Mayhem and Dark Angel (who have apparently reformed and are recording new stuff!!). Some cool new CDs I've picked up lately:
Anaal Nakrath - The Codex Necro
Akercocke - Choronzon
Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
Primordial - Spirit the Earth Aflame & Storm Before Calm
Aborym - With No Human Intervention
Also downloaded some cool stuff by UK band Mithras and am pretty keen to get hold of either of their albums; kinda like a more spaced out Morbid Angel.

How did I know you'd be forst to reply??

I dig old school thrash as well, Dark Angel are the masters, can't wait to hear some of their new stuff, Gene Hoglan, Ron Rienhart and Eric Meyer are all still in the band so should be wicked, hopefully they'll finally record some of the "Atrocity Exhibition" material (final unrecorded album that was written before they broke up).
And forgot to mention I f*cking HATE nu-metal!!!

Yeh Nu-Metal is a disgrace to the word metal. It should not be even considered as a relative of metal.

Im more a fan of local bands like Shades of Dust, Japunga and the Butterfly Effect. My favourite all time is Pantera though, dimebag on a guitar is just f**ken bliss!

Never really dug Pantera for some reason. Maybe because I was fully into heavier styles by the time they decided to get heavy (anyone else remember when Pantera were basically a glam band? )

If any of your favourite bands have downloadable mp3s on their sites, post up the links, it would be cool to be able to check out each other's favourites. Here's a few of mine:
Anaal Nathrakh - "Pandemonic Hyperblast": http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dbanger/mp3s/pandemonic2.mp3
Mithras - (6 downloadable tracks, check out "Psyrens": http://www.mithras.org.uk/Mp3s.htm
Primordial - "The Burning Season": http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2678/2678536.html "Sons of the Morrigan": http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2870/2870443.html
Akercocke - "Becoming the Adversary" (unmixed demo): http://www.akercocke.com/mainassets/Becoming_the_Adversary.mp3

Nu Metal = Pop Metal = Pop = Crap.

My theory of evolution.

Keep it heavy.

With your similar looking avatars i confused you with Thrash Viking lol

I'm into a small bit of power metal, thrash (technically only because i listen to one thrash band)....and some hardcore which i dunno if you guys classify as metal in the sense of the word

I like the stuff where the vocals aren't growled nor screamed and where i can actually understand the lyrics.....grind, hardcore and black metal kinda get to me.....i hear the screams once and i've heard them all - its just not my cup of tea.....thats why i cant stand Triple's J's metal show.....its TOO heavy....lol..you can only tolerate so much of something

I guess i like metal that is accessible.....as in, you could crank it up on the stereo in your house and not scare away all the neighbours and make them sell up and move.....lol

Love power metal, albeit i only have some artists that i like....Rob Rock, Black Majesty etc.....but just recently i've got into thrash stuff....just recently picked up Where Moth and Rust Destroy and Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm by Tourniquet......and this stuff is blowing me away musically and lyrically......you can tell that these guys really work and think about what they're doin......great catchy lyrics combined with speed and crazy riffs and insane drumming to boot....can't go wrong

I'm also with Thrash Viking.....i like Skid Row too.....they ain't too metal.....but still rock

I'd be more inclined to sell up and move out if my neighbours played R&B cranked up I reckon!
When's Triple J's show on? Might check it out, although I imagine it's a bit heavy on the nu-metal for my tastes.
And forgot to add '80s hair metal to my hates list; sorry RJ!! (Although the first couple of Crue albums have a sort of charm)

Space, turn on 2RRR 88.5Fm now for your metal fix through till 6am! tomorrow morning......there are 3 shows back to back, one is finishing now

Full Metal Racket on Trip J is on Tuesday nights 11pm-1am......No nu-metal there! really heavy stuff

I'd recommend Loud though....its on BFM 100.9FM.....Tuesday nights from 10pm-12am...plays the WHOLE range of metal styling and its easier on the ears.....a fair bit of Aussie metal content on there too

BTW-Space, we are all 80s hair metalheads out here! So watch out for the spandex and aqua net brigade when it comes to dissing our lovely music!

You got no idea buddy, Japunga and Butterfly Effect may be new bands time wise in comparison to the 80's hair bands getting thrown around in here, but that doesnt make them part of the 'nu-metal' rubbish.

As for Pantera, yeh they were glam, but they developed nicely into the great metal band they are today (well, the band they were till Phils 'back' went on him). That being said, im not sure how you could ever consider them nu metal
