This thread was initially supposed to be a top 5. However, My top ten " ACTION " war movies would probably be (in no particular order) :-

Gallipoli
The Devils Brigade
The Battle of Britain
The Longest Day
Saving Private Ryan
A Bridge Too Far
We Were Soldiers
Hamburger Hill
Platoon
Apocylypse Now

( Black Hawk Down doesn't really count cause it wasn't set in a "war". The Great Escape isn't really action/fighting, and the "ANZAC's" and that American Airbourne Mini Series and the other billions don't really count they are not movies ).

What are you best ten ?? ;-) :)

I saw Band of Brothers when it first came out on the box. Have the book which I have read twice, and have the entire series on DVD. It's not a MOVIE though is it. ??? The name slipped me yesterday morning as had been awake for more than 24 hrs on nightwork. LOL.....

Zulu, great film.

Does Hotel Rwanda count? Either way it's one of the better movies of the past few years.

Das Boot and All Quiet on the western front are both great movies from the German perspective.

Speaking of foreign movies I saw a DVD many months ago that was Korean made. Had subtitles ETC, and was about the korean war. Great battle scenes throughout and good story line as well. The name currently ecapes me though. ???

Stalingrad - made back in the 90's I think, SBS show it occasionally. Fantastic scenes in the battles through the cellars and sewers of the city. A great watch if war movies interest you. From memory it's subtitled though?

Yeah. Have seen that one mate. It's ok, but would not place it amongst my top ten though. Wish I could remember the name of the korean one though. Definately worth a look. I would see it again even.

Plenty of truly GREAT classic old war movies, though they lack the realism for me these days. used to Love " the Green berets " and other john WAYNE classics. However the bloke would be dead a thousand times over if realistic. LOL....
