Just saw this on Sky Sports News - I wonder what has happened here?? He always seemed to have a decent head on his shoulders - does anyone have any ideas??

(Mods - not sure if better in UK forum?? But given he is one of the chosen `05 ones.......)

Kiwi in hospital after arrest
Huddersfield centre subjected to mental health checks

Last updated: 14th October 2009

Huddersfield Giants centre Paul Whatuira has been taken to hospital for mental health checks after being arrested following two assaults.

The former New Zealand international was detained by police early on Tuesday morning after an incident on the outskirts of Huddersfield which left one man with serious facial injuries.

Having picked up Whatuira and initially taken him to Huddersfield police station in West Yorkshire, the decision was made to transfer the 28-year-old to a secure unit in Bradford for an assessment on his mental health.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 28-year-old man was arrested and later given police bail. He is undergoing a mental health assessment in a secure unit."

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis stated: "Paul and his family have the full medical support of the club available to them at this difficult time.

"I would ask that everyone respects the importance in this instance of confidentiality and understands that the club is upholding its duty of care to provide the best possible environment to help Paul.

"No-one from the club will be making any further comment."

Whatuira started his career in his native New Zealand with the Auckland Warriors and went on to represent the Melbourne Storm, Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers in Australia before joining Huddersfield in 2008.

This season he was part of the Giants team that lost the Challenge Cup final to Warrington at Wembley.

As a chosen one, maybe a bit more respect could've been shown in the title

A little respect for a bloke who was such a lovely guy off the field as well as a champion on it, wouldn't go astray

Not sure how I was being disrespectful in the title - it is a terminology of the facility (allbeit in this santised age not very PC), not the player in question.

As you can see in my post I asked if anyone knew anything else on this - as it seemed very out of character for the guy.

But to ensure I haven`t offended you I have changed the title to content words used in the article only. Hopefully this is showing enough respect now.

Though if the official club line is no comment maybe out of respect I shouldn`t have posted the article and asked a question, lest I be judged for not respecting his privacy in a matter that shouldnt be discussed in the media.

There is a massive difference between a secure health assessment unit and a psychiatric facility that is often referred to a nuthouse as per your title and hence my offence. Also, obviously never had a family member in one and seen how sad those places are champ. Especially when the vast majority have no control over their medical condition, yes a significant percentage of others are drug related. No PC issue but correct relaying of the facts was more my concern with the title but your ignorance of the mental health care system in your response meant I thought I should explain it a little more for you.

THIS IS A f**kIN FORUM-

Take your P.C. sh*t elswhere.

People like you are responsible to changing BAA BAA black sheep to Rainbow sheep-

And the new Jack and Jill Nursery Rhyme

Original

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown , and Jill came tumbling after.
P.C. version

Two young persons of opposite gender, proceeded toward the apex of a natural geologic protuberance. The purpose of their expedition was to procure a sample of fluid hydride of oxygen in a large vessel, the exact size of which was omniously omitted from the record. As the male person precipitously descended, he consequently sustained severe damage to the upper cranial portion of his anatomy. A similar fate befell the female, who immediately after the male person, performed a self-rotational translation oriented in the same direction having been traversed by the young man.

Hey Dumb Ar*e

Read my post slowly so you can understand, rather than being a hero behind a keyboard

My point was there is a difference between a secure hospital unit and a "nuthouse". He is currently being assessed, according to the story, he has not been locked up in a psychiatric facility or nuthouse. The point I was trying to make, and read this slowly, was that it hasn't gone that far yet, his mental condition is only being tested. He may end up there, obviusly we all hope not, depending on the results but the original title suggested he was already there and that's not the case.

Hope I didn't use too many big words for you

The non-PCness of it aside, a secure hospital unit isn't a 'nuthouse', the 'nuthouse' is a lot worse, trust me.

Hope he comes through this, as has been said, great bloke.

If I was to make a joke I could say that living in Huddersfield would do this to someone.

Ouch, great comeback. But tell me, do you now understand the difference or are you still as fuc*ing stupid and lacking any clues? Be like someone saying you have aids when its herpes, not that you can get either from your hand, but you may understand that example more. Dropkick, but maybe you enjoy people's conditions being misreported, ala the original title of this thread, and kicking them while they're down. Sorry about the use of big words again. Maybe get mum to explain them to you

bullsh*t-

You are taking the piece out of context, nitpicking , trivializing text and wasting peoples time by taking a shot at someone over the difference between a S.H.U. and a Nuthouse..... the article mentions fats will have a "mental health assessment ". most people will read the article and see what it is about , not get caught up in the title.

Who gives a toss what someone puts as the title of the thread.( obviously you do hence you are a tool) Most people on here do not need you to police the forums, they can read an article and deduct a sensible conclusion.
The example of aids v herpes is drawing a very long bow...

b&w was not inteding to kick someone while they were down, you just took things out of context, and disregarded the "spirtit" of the post.-( again this is why you are a tool).

Bugger off. This is the Tigers forum, its known for its petty squabbles.

I am learning that more every day...

There should be an internet rule - don't say something you would not say to a strangers face, but this would only work with adults as school kids are used to being smart without getting punched in the mouth as often as they should...

People who have had people dear to them in "nuthouses" can react a bit funny to such things. Internet and all that, but some people are very sensitive to mental health issues is all, myself included. Not that I would've said anything, but not everyone has my Internet restraint.
