When did you know that your team would win the big one?

When did you first realise that your team would win the big one that year that your team claimed the prize? When did you have that gut feeling that it was going to be your team’s year?

Being a Balmain / Wests Tigers supporter, good times were pretty bloody lean in number. After 1989, I have NEVER had a gut feel that my team would win anything until a Sunday afternoon game against the Sharks at Shark Park.
I was at my place that I rented in Camooweal (North Qld territory) this particular day. Before this game, the Tigs had some pretty good form but I never believed that was going to last and expected a bleak end. The Sharks had a pretty strong line-up that day. The way our key players played that day was simply magical. Our forwards played like a premiership pack, Prince had a huge day with a hat-trick and Benji delivered the most amazing try assist you will ever see. For an opposition crowd to cheer Benji the way they did showed how special the play was.
That afternoon, I jumped up and down and was full of joy. From that game onwards, I fully believed that we were going to win it.
The team had bigger occasions that year (GF, the semi against St George) but that regular season game was very bloody special to me as a Tigers fan. Very special year as a league supporter and no other season comes close.

I was convinced the Tigers were going to win in 2005 when they smashed the Broncos 36-4 in the 2nd week of the finals...

That was a good Broncos team that won the competition the following year but they were just obliterated that day...

1991: We were always going to win it after being the best team all year, but really the Izzard try with 11 minutes to go in the GF was when it appeared won, after we'd been well outplayed in the first half and had a fair try disallowed early in the second.

2003: The Sattler tackle was what won it, but the Priddis try shortly after was when it was confirmed.

Told everyone I could .
10 yrs to make a GF .
Another 10 to win one .

Even after the first three losses I was convinced we would win the battle ..

The flogging of Cronulla in the second semi last year was a strong moment.

Matt Scott boning the entire sharks pack was convincing enough for me.

I had been eating acid and pills like they were rock candy for months and ended up in the psych ward in 2005 because I thought I was god. I was sedated to the eyeballs on valium watching that very game and I told my dad afterwards while dribbling all over myself that the Tigers would win the comp. I thought I was controlling the players through the screen with my mind.

The Tigers won that comp the week before, against the Dragons, who were talented enough to win 10 comps, but rather complacent and prone to falling asleep in important games. The same the previous year as well, when they conceded a 24 point start at Penrith against an injury hit opponent on the opening night of the finals, only to be eliminated from 5th by a single point.

The Cows were never going to trouble Wests in the GF, after they'd had 50 put on them by the same team a few weeks prior.

When they were in the GF against Eastern Suburbs in 1972.

I was at the game at the SCG. Beetson got flattened and the crowd hushed. In my best 13 year old voice, I yelled out "Get up Beetson...I can't see the field!"

The old man gave me a dirty look as roars of laughter erupted. He was an Easts supporter.

pretty much exactly this for me too. I had a weird gut feeling before 2015 kicked off. There was something about it being our 20th season and 10yr aniversary of our first GF. After 3 losses to open the season i looked at our premiership odds and thought about a flutter only to pull the pin as i didn't want to jinx it. From about round 19/20 i was just ready and waiting for the finals to hurry up and get here, rather than worrying about the remaining regular season games.

Once the finals started i was convinced it was our year, we've got it all over the broncos in finals games and after bombing two easy tries in a narrow loss away from home and then blowing the sharks out of the water comfortably, I wasnt too worried about the Storm as i felt they were limping while we were just gearing up.

Back in '06, the Melbourne game near the end of the regular season.

It was a loss, but there was just something in the way the team played that suggested bigger things were just around the corner.

Of course like most fans I've had that feeling about other seasons, but even a stopped watch is right twice a day and all that.

I'm hoping we end our 30 year drought as you guys broke your 20 and Souths broke their 43 year drought recently. It seems the time for drought breaking teams to win. Hopefully it's us but I think we have a year or 2 to really gel first

When we just somehow found a way to keep winning last season

Oddly it started against the storm in round 4 with a THURSTON field goal v the storm after we lost the first three straight

When SBW lead us to spank souffs to win the minor premiership indicated that Easts were going to win in 2013. Though when Melbourne got knocked out in the second week of the finals it seemed to be more certain that the premiership was ours. 100% confirmation when Jenko scored his miracle try

I called our 2013 premiership to my mates after we beat manly the 2nd time at home. It became even more clear after we thrashed the Sharks as well. Just went all in and rode the feeling all the way to the GF.

I also picked the Tigers 2005 premierships several weeks prior to the end of the season after they beat us at ANZ that year, and told my tigers loving brother in law to buy is GF tickets and get ready to party.

Every other year I've been wrong

When Todd Payten scored late. I was never going to let myself get too far ahead after 89.

Hey alien? When did you think 05 was in the bag?

I'm extremely pessimistic. It wasn't until Reynolds converted Auva'a's try did I start believing 'holy shit, we might win this thing'.
