Gasnier and Cooper were very quick in fact Cooper along w Soward were the fastest players over 50m in the club and that included B Morris ..
2010 backline was quick I think slightly quicker than 1999 team
Yeah I agree with Gaz and Coops to a point but they didnt appear to be quick quick if you know what I mean

I would also insert Quinlan in the mix. For a small bugger he had speed to burn.

Not being a 'know it all' but the premiership 2010 team wins hands down.

I have discussed this at work with others. The question was which backline was fastest? Ben Hornby was was not genuinely quick but moved well.

Then it is sensational.

Sowie 5/8 once in the clear was impossible to run down, his speed blistering. Often ran through narrow gaps in the defensive line with leg speed that was furious. Prior to Sowie Cooper was the quickest in the club and then in 2010 teamed with Gaz in the centres. Therefore, the fastest centre combination in the clubs history.

Brett Morris was frighteningly fast, a true winger. I never saw him run down from behind, many long range trys. Yes, nighty was not outstandingly quick but acceptable. Then at the back the flying Darius Boyd.

We may never see a consolidated backline in our club so searingly quick. A big factor in out premiership win.

Not big noting but trained with Brian Johnston our chairman back in the day. In a pair of spikes he could match a guy who ran 3rd in the Australian 100 metre championship for 30 metres. Brian was a fabulous player but seemed to not move as well in footy boots.

Interesting remarks fellas...thanks for participating ..some oldies and hopefully new speedies in our ranks....thought Id start a thread on this as it seems ages since we had some genuine quick men that could score from anywhere

Stan Gorton and Mark Bell were also pretty quick from what I can remember as individuals along with Jason Donnelly.
Stanley was very quick indeed and over a 100 he would be in our top 10.
Lumsden also very quick for a big man.
However none hold a candle to Ken Irvine.
Of course he played with Norths for most of his career and they rarely featured in any finals footy and he still holds the try scoring record.
236 Club games for 212 tries in an era of 10 and 12 clubs only.
Rep career 62 games for 70 tries
Nice little youtube on him with some nice cameos from Langlands, Raper and Gasnier (shows what a beautiful balanced runner he was)

Yes Chariots was very slick.....thats going back a while
I will never forget back in 91 against the Raiders Meninga makes one of his Usual breaks, Offiah makes chase with ease catches up to him,he then virtually escorts big Mal 30 meters to the try line, speed to burn but couldn't tackle at all.

At training when they do sprints.
Over 20 and 50 meters.
Jai feild is the fastest in the backs
Also mann and Widdop.
In the forwards frizz and jdb overall.
But Simms over short distances.

Wouldn't be great if someone in recruiting worked out the need for speed and factored that in, along with fitness, defensive capability and strength when recruiting players. In fact I'd like to see players not just medically tested but also tested for the above traits and other such requirements by our Club prior to signing a contract.

100% correct and we both know who scored the long range tries which is exactly what we haven't been able to do ever since said person left.
Gasnier & Cooper did not score many tries from long range but were excellent finishers within 40 meters.
