Where do they get their money?

Hull sell around 10,000 0n gates of 12,000. I just find it hard to believe that Leeds sell 3 times as many on gates only half as big.

Leeds have much better attendance than Hull, they average about 18k to Hulls 12, which is half as much again

Leeds is also a much bigger city, about 3 times the size of Hull, they also have links with Leeds Met University who sell shirts, tickets, etc, which has 52k students,

Nice to see you loiner.

Leeds fan here too. ;-)

When Leeds travel to Wembley, they would take 33,000 with them. Check out the 1978 CC Final and see how many we had there...

Hull or Rovers would take that many. The woodwork creaks when success comes along. Hull as a city virtually filled Wembley in 1980. It doesn't mean we have 100,000 fans between us.

alot of corporate support that most ppl dont no about
most clubs make money in their stadiums during the week. they are built to do more than just watch footy here in england unlike aus
in the licensing scheme teams have to turnover more than 4mil. thats around 8mil aud. im 100% sure australian teams turn over more than that. but they just dont spend as much on crap like they do in the nrl

when i look at the crowds and coverage of the super league clubs i wonder how they could possibly have more money to throw at australian-based players than the nrl clubs. i'm not intending to be patronizing here, i'm just wondering where they get their money from.
is there a higher level of privatization in the esl?
are the clubs better at milking the sponsorship dollar?
does their close-proximity to europe automatically drive-up sponsorships and corporate revenue?
or is it more a case that the esl clubs have more efficient budget strategies, where they spend most of their funding on player payments, unlike the nrl clubs who, at the most, spend about 40%?
apologies if this question has been asked before...

Part of it is that clubs make more money from gate receipts. Souths get $100k a home game, HKR income is around $350k a game, and because it is their own ground much of that is profit. Also it is not so much were SL clubs get their money but what the heck do NRL clubs spend theirs on! The NRL clubs operate on a avg $12-15million budget whilst the Sl clubs are on around $9mill. Thats a big difference in expenses!

To the OP'ster.

The Poms do not throw big money as such at Aussies, as has been said it is the conversion rate that makes the numbers big for us.

If the Aussie $ was equal to the GBP (like we are now with the USD) it would be very close to equal.

YOu also have to remember that the newspapers and news programs report the signings in Australian dollars which is not in fact the case.
For e.g. when they say Matt King was signed for $2.4m over 4 years he would actually have been signed for about 300,000 pound a year and then the papers double it (the rate is actually a little over double it) and you get the impression they are spending up massive.

But an English club earns pounds not $ and is a big advantage when offering the same money to an Aussie cause whatever he takes home will be doubled.

But remember whilst the player lives and spends in England his money is not doubled.....its only what he saves and sends home in Aussie dollars that is doubled.

So basically they spend similar to us but the conversion rate ups the anti for Aussie players.

Conversly it also cripples those good pommy players who may wish to test themselves down here in the NRL as they have to take paycuts of over 1/2 to anything they earn and take back home.

The price to attend games is more in UK as well. Average price in Oz is $25, average in UK is nearer $40
