Where do we hide Sandow in defence?

To me this was the most worrying aspect of last night's game. Yes we were undisciplined, yes there were some bad calls against us, but to me there was a big issue for Stuart to address.

Obviously it is nothing new. But looking at the ways the Tigers targeted Sandow in defence close to the line, what can Stuart do to combat it?

You can see that every team will do it when the opportunity arises. Unfortunately Chrissie has next to no chance against bigger opponents. Where does he defend close to the line???

You can't really hide him with an inexperienced back line that has it's own defensive weaknesses

1. Get 2 Sandow dummies made up.
2. Procure 3 extra large cups.
3. Insert the two Sandow dummies plus the real Sandow randomly into the cups.
4. The get someone to do this behind the line every time we are defending.

Could we get one of those baby holder thingos and strap him to the front of Darcy or Fui when we are defending ?

If Ricky is going to persist with the giant pillow that is B Smith can't we use him as Sandow minder like Carroll did with Locky???? I mean he offers little else.

every team has the same problem, Bennett went to great extents to have Toni Carroll act as minder for Alfie and Lockyer

its part of the game

You can't just put him next to Smith or they'll run on his outside shoulder and target him + centre/winger. Smith won't be able to help there.

You can play him on the wing but then we'd need a strong defensive winger inside him. We don't have one.

I actually think in the middle of the park is his spot. He'll have boppers on each side who can take the top while he goes for the legs. It's tighter there and so it's harder to isolate him and on the tryline he can just keep getting into marker where it's very congested.

Really, though, I don't see how we can structure our line defense in a way that's perfect cover for him as we don't have the experienced defensive players that we'd need. I just think in the middle is the least worst option, although it would have the obvious drawback of tiring him out.

So, basically we're screwed?

I think the problem is that we have both Sandow and Roberts in the same team.

Roberts needs to be shunted back to Wenty PRONTO, and only brought back in Sandow is injured.

Big Ben is equally bad in defence (or worse?) because he seems fine, then suddenly he just plants his feet and grabs. Results in a try every time..

Last night he gave up that try where he planted his feet, managed to recover and grab, then he and Reni ballsed up the holding down and getting to marker part, saloon passage from dummy half for the try.

We can cope with one awful defender, not with 2.

Not inside the wingers. the wingers defensively has the hardest the hardest spot. has to decide to come in or stay out and can be made look really bad. Therefore less pressure is needed on our wingers especially as they aren't the best defensive wingers going around. Two in then between centre and bodyguard type forward.

I would have thought some common sense and logic would prevail and we bring back Stu Galbraith

When/if Willie tonga comes back, stick him between smith and tonga when defending on or nesr our line. For all the bagging tonga gets he is pretty solid defensively.

The rest of the time, particularly when the opposition is carting it out from their own line stick sandow on the wing

I'd put Sandow in the absolute centre right next to Mannah.

He can be hidden there and sit just one step behind the front line so that he isn't taking the brunt of the hit in defence.
