I do agree with the statement in some ways. There are no real enforcers left in the NRL. Tallis used to be before his neck. Beattie once was, but has gone soft in recent years. Morley is tough, but borderline dangerous and reckless.
Look back at the older days and you'd find a handful in every team. Randall, Gilmeister, Sargent, Harragon, Miles, Roberts, Davidson etc.
I don't think you'd find any player in today's modern game as tough as Les Davidson.
That bloke was one of, if not the toughest bloke to ever lace on a boot for Cronulla. That says alot, because we had blokes like the Sorenson bros, Danny Lee, Beattie, John McMartin and Cliff Watson.
He would flatten you with a perfectly legal tackle. Not like Morley who is very careless. Davo could take anything the opposition could give him and still get back up. As tough as an old piece of Leather.
Tallis mentions him in his Autobio, and says how he once saw Davidson knock out 2 Saints players with the one punch.
The only person today who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as him would be Ruben Wiki. He belts blokes in perfectly legal tackles, and is as hard as nails. Wiki is the modern day Davidson I think.
Webcke, Luke Bailey and Nutley deserve a mention too - nut none are in the same league as Wiki.
