Business Review Weekly has done a great cover story on the success of the various codes across Australia and how the trend will continue thanks to increases in sponsorship as well as broadcasting rights.
As part of the piece they also did a comparison of clubs within the NRL. Here are some of the results.
Value
Brisbane $17.7M
St Geo/Illa $14M
Melbourne $13M
Canterbury $12M
Newcastle $12M
Sydney City $12M
Parramatta $11M
Canberra $10.5M
Nth Qld $10M
New Zealand $9M
Wests $9M
Penrith $8.5M
Cronulla $8.5M
Manly $5.0M
Souths $3.5M
Total Revenue, the Raiders are at $11.09M, which again puts us at 8th on the list, behind Brisbane who is 1st with $20.30M and Manly who are last with $8.60M.
Total Revenue consists of game revenue, leagues club grants and external funding. We are ranked last when it comes to game revenue which consists of sponsorship, ticket sales and hospitality and if it wasn't for the $2.6M we received from our Leagues Club Grants and $1.43M from external funding we would be lower down the list on total revenue.
As a brand, we were ranked 14th ahead of Souths and again behind Brisbane who are 1st. If and when Souths does decide to become a success on the park and off it again, we could see our Brand Value drop to last on the league.
Branding, is proportional to club's revenue, number of star players, average crowds, supporter base, television ratings and apperances on free-to-air. All of the above mentioned are related to success on the field, and the extra coverage and revenue that brings.
