Where our club stands?

Business Review Weekly has done a great cover story on the success of the various codes across Australia and how the trend will continue thanks to increases in sponsorship as well as broadcasting rights.

As part of the piece they also did a comparison of clubs within the NRL. Here are some of the results.

Value
Brisbane $17.7M
St Geo/Illa $14M
Melbourne $13M
Canterbury $12M
Newcastle $12M
Sydney City $12M
Parramatta $11M
Canberra $10.5M
Nth Qld $10M
New Zealand $9M
Wests $9M
Penrith $8.5M
Cronulla $8.5M
Manly $5.0M
Souths $3.5M

Total Revenue, the Raiders are at $11.09M, which again puts us at 8th on the list, behind Brisbane who is 1st with $20.30M and Manly who are last with $8.60M.

Total Revenue consists of game revenue, leagues club grants and external funding. We are ranked last when it comes to game revenue which consists of sponsorship, ticket sales and hospitality and if it wasn't for the $2.6M we received from our Leagues Club Grants and $1.43M from external funding we would be lower down the list on total revenue.

As a brand, we were ranked 14th ahead of Souths and again behind Brisbane who are 1st. If and when Souths does decide to become a success on the park and off it again, we could see our Brand Value drop to last on the league.

Branding, is proportional to club's revenue, number of star players, average crowds, supporter base, television ratings and apperances on free-to-air. All of the above mentioned are related to success on the field, and the extra coverage and revenue that brings.

Every team above us have been perrenial contenders the past decade, with most winning a premiership. Very interesting list.

We're damn near last for branding yet the club boss said we don't really need a major sponsor other than for club morale.

How about saying sponsorship is great as it gives us the money to increase brand awareness and the fan base...

Talk about complacent.

Taken out of last week's BRW print edition.

Cheers. There is an online copy of it but its part of their premium membership. I'll have to see if I can get a copy. Cheers.

Those Revenue levels dont reflect financial strength at all. Our leagues club grant would be 50 million if there was a need for it. At the moment they are just to cover expenses because we already have decent training facillities, stadium etc. Realistically we are one department inside the leagues club organization, you cant seperate us out.

As far as branding goes, you have to expect it. We are not in a major market.

Well we seem to be a lot better off than I thought.
Thank god for poker machines and the losers that pump cash into them!

That's giving up too easily. Branding can be developed across the country and around the world.

In RU-land Harlequins is a master of this.
