Australia... would be interested to see it elsewhere such as USA but realistically - it'll be Oz/NZ.
It's 8 years time. I doubt the people behind the NRLUS website would be involved, to be honest.US would be a coup against rugby union if it would establish itself as a top-tier nation, and is very tempting. I would love to see it happen, but I seriously doubt it would work. Just imagine the NRLUS website handling the world cup progress news and there's the nighmare..
Agreed. The US is pie in the sky stuff if you ask me. I very much doubt you'd have cities bidding for games. As a matter of fact I'm sure we'd have to pay to play games.
Although I agree it's pie in the sky how do we not need USA? To rule out the US and then say try China instead is quite odd. I'd certainly be all for development in the US, I just think the WC is realistically only gonna be between Oz/NZ and England (perhaps France co-hosting... at a stretch) for the time being.
The world cup is not hosted in a city. It's not the Olympics. Cities don't 'bid' to host the event. Equally, we're not talking about the time being. This is 8 years away FFS. If it's considered pie in the sky to arrange an decent sized event anywhere in the world in 8 years, let alone the richest and 3rd most populated country, then we might as well just give up completely.I agree with your comments about the US. No US city is going to put in a bid to host the world cup. It would look pretty embarrassing for the game if we asked for tenders. For the time being I would forget about the USA. We don't need them and to be honest I don't think they want us.
I still keep coming back to China or anywhere in Asia. Japan is another option. We need to grow the game in that part of the world.
USA. With marketing they could easily achieve crowds as big as the 2008 Cup did, the Australia games aside, and more importantly it would expose the Yanks to 'rugby' as being league and not union.
