Which Eel has made you eat humble pie ?

I haven't been a fan of Lowrie, but thought he was being scapegoated by fans ... now he's going good and is suddenly everybody's favourite "tradesman" footballer.

Don't mind the "tradesman" analogy - sure, he is no superstar, but it is great to see someone who used to have you tear your hair out every time he touched the ball, knuckle down and play disciplined, and seemingly get better for it each game.

Speaking of "tradesman" players, surely Alan Tongue must be head of their union?

definitely captain caylo and to a smaller degree smokin joe (but more over his parra existence than just this season).

i don't think lowrie and robson playing half decent football on the back of a team in good form really justifies humble pie.

ben smith in the forward pack has a long way to go before i'll take a piece of that too.

had me eating humble pie... hayne.

had a massive attitude problem that i thought he was never going to get the better of, and was never going to earn the money he held out for last time his contract was up.

he's doing well teh second half of this season, but i'd still like to see a whole year of consistency from him before i reckon he's the best player in the game today etc etc

This may seem ridiculous, but mine is Daniel Mortimer. I told a friend that supports Parra that i didn't think Morts was ready for 1st grade yet and that i was concerned he would get trampled. I'm happy to say that that has been proven wrong so far. Some of his games in the NYC in the middle part of the year he just seemed to be treading water. Not tearing games up but definately not sinking either. It may have been due to MR Fairleigh bad that caused these issues....

1. Fui Fui Moi Moi. Was, in my opinion a very one-dimensional player, with no football sense and a lot of mistakes in him. He has proved me wrong.

2. Eric Grothe. I thought he was lazy, with a piss-poor attitude, riddled with mistakes and basically had no f**kin idea of how to play football. Wrong again, happily. I thought Hayne was over-rated; I thought Cayless was dead in the water. Wrong again.
I thought Tim Smith was the most over-rated half-back we've ever had. Wrong.........hang on a minute.

burt is mine or does finch count. i've already apologised but the thread made me do it again. i heard on some footy show the other day that burts instructions from the coach were to be decisive in the way he approached the game. if true, it explains his new found committment and it was the perfect solution. and to do all this with a bruised buttock

while I never said he was bad, I didn't think Burty would do well on the wing - I thought he might be found out defensively ... but he's been great - more than happy to be wrong :D

My sister told me a couple of years ago that she had a couple of Eels 'stars' coming to her work for a special guest appearance. I was excited and said try and get some signatures, hoping it might be Hindy or Hayne etc. She called me and said two players turned up that she didn't know and they signed a soft Eels footy ball that she ended up sending me. The ball arrived in the mail with signatures from Joel Reddy and Todd Lowrie and I laughed for a week, as they were my two least favourite players ! I've been kicking this ball around my house for a two years telling everyone how sh*t they both are and how lucky I was to have this wonderful piece of sports memorabilia.
So now I definitely eat my words and especially with Joel who has turned into a very complete and talented footballer .

for me id say daniel anderson has made me eat humble pie, from picking hayne at five eight and sacking finch etc i didnt have TOTAL confidence in him but he obviously knew what he was doing!!!

also on a playing point of view ive always had doubts about matt keating, but hes had a solid year this year and has really outshined kingston this month and im confident for him to be our 80 minute hooker next year!!!
