Which forward (excluding hookers) makes the most ground per hit up on average in the NRL?
Some criteria - must have at least 50 hitups this season, and be calculated from the NRL's stats: metres gained/hitups

For the Broncos: Civoniceva: 9.2 metres

Not many platers can beat that...just had a quick look and Frank Pritchard, Tony Puletua, Roy Asotasi, Carl Webb, Steve Price have achieved better...but no NSW eligible rep players in that list ;-)

Um for Newcastle...

Surprisingly, our top "metres-per-hitup" forward who is quaified is Blake Meuller, who averages 8.46, who just pips Craig Smith with 8.45.

However of players who have been injured and thus are not qualified, Clint Newton averages 9.7, and has made 20 hitups.
Daniel Tolar averages 9.1 and has made 43 hitups.
Josh Perry averages 8.8 and has made 27 hitups.
Matt White averages 8.5 and has made 46 hitups.

All in all, I'd say our biggest impact runner with the ball is Clint Newton. He has very powerful leg drive.

Metres: 734
Metres per hitup: 9.4

Yep, he's a strong chap.
Puletua averaged over 10 metres from 52 hitups..which was a great start to the season. Would have been interesting if he could have kept that up for the whole season.

Ben Kennedy averaged 11 metres throughout 2001 i think.

That's a good effort. That would be bloody hard to maintain over a season.

Miller is the only canberra forward who meets the criteria and gets close. He averages 8.8 metres per hit up (83 for 734 metres).

His stats were constantly high eg 14 hit ups for 167 metres. He also scored 17 trys that year. Certainly a big part of why we won the comp.

Matt Parsons averaged 10 metres throughout his career.

Those stats would include clean breaks/kick returns etc.

For a forward running into a set defensive line, I'd take big Benny Ross from the mighty panthers, and Puletua if he was fit.
