Which is the Greater Achievement?

I sometimes get the impression it's the case for some Queenslanders, especially Broncos players and fans, that Origin is valued higher.

Ask him if he'd trade them all

As a fan I'd trade them all for the 2001 premiership.

And I'd trade any number of "series wins" for Eels premiership wins. This includes test series and WC's.

And it's not even close.

Gallen would have never said that, neither would any player ever.

I can't find the link but it was earlier this year and Gallen said he'd be devastated to never win an Origin but a lot of good players never win a premiership etc etc. He basically said winning origin is more important to him.

Grand Final Win for sure.

I thinks it's remembered longer. I'm a Qlder and enjoy the SOO but after the 3rd game I just say OK ..that was entertaining now let's get on with the rest of the season so we can watch our teams play without the stars being withheld from games. I then get more interested in how the teams aim up for the finals.

I get shat off with watching teams play during SOO without their full contingent.

Luckily for some players they get both....sadly for others....they get neither.

Remember SOO win means you are the best of 2 teams

Grand Final Win means you are the best of 16 teams.

He didn't.

And no player would.

That last reason is geniused. The number of teams is meaningless. Winning the FA cup for example.

Would Gallen trade in his Origin series win for a premiership?

Would Gallen trade in his premiership for an Origin series win?

Oh wait.

It depends on the individual. For me it's not even close, grand final is more important every day of the week. But for others might think differently. I've heard Gallen say he'll be shattered if he never wins an Origin while a club premiership is not as important.
Of course Gallen would say that as he knew that he was never going to win a premiership with those mongs, so he wants everyone to think that he's achieved his goal if NSW win.

Only when we're not in a position to contend for a premiership.

The whole point of supporting a football club is the goal of winning the comp, Origin is separate to that.

Just to clarify my OP, the question was directed at that special group of players who have won an NRL Premiership AND a State of Origin series.

This post is geniused. Winning the FA Cup has FA to do with the NRL.

It's like comparing cucumbers with iron pyrites.

Your other account insinuated that number of teams competing in a competition is somehow a Mark of its importance.

That's dumb

Most players I've heard say getting a kangaroo jersey is the greatest honour they can get.

Yet most players never get one. It is certainly the greatest honour for an Australian individual. How could it be anything else? Doesn't mean it is the greatest achievement. Depends on the sport of course. Would a golfer dream of representing Australia or winning the Masters?

If you asked Thurston he would probably trade 4 State of Origin series wins for 2 premierships, but I don't think he would trade 8 series wins for 4 prems.

It's a premiership victory hands down, winning an origin series is important of course. But you prepare yourself every day of each season to win the premiership for your club. You play with your mates and get to know each other like a family and will forever go down in immortality.

Also for many players if they are an incumbent selection for Origin so get the chance to play virtually every year. Paul Gallen has been in first grade for 13 years and has yet to play in a grand final.

Origin has only become important because Queensland has dominated for a decade. So NSW winning an origin series will become a very important moment when it finally does happen.

Even then it only lasts a year at most and we are back again next year. State of Origin is a constant in the game if you are an elite level player you will always have the chance to win one.

Premiership's are very difficult to win

To put it into context

South Sydney - 20 premierships in 106 years
Manly - 8 premierships in 67 years
Melbourne - 4 premierships in 15 years
Brisbane - 6 premierships in 26 years

State of Origin

Queensland - 20 out of 32 series
NSW - 12 out of 32 series

Premierships are much rarer to win and are easily more special. Again only NSW incompetence has led to it being more important if NSW had won 3 of the previous 8 series then it wouldn't even be contemplated as being more important.

It is a media driven thing that lasts one month of the year. Also news flash State of Origin was never the pinnacle of the game until after Super League at least for players. Playing for Australia was always considered the pinnacle of someone's representative career. Even the awesome early 90's state of origin games were eclipsed by Lions and Kangaroo tours.

?? Super League had nothing to do with Origin's importance, good or bad. You must be young to think the early 90s was the early glorious days of Origin.

Only NSW losing has made Origin important is crack smoking.
