Sweet revenge for Anasta
October 4, 2004

BULLDOGS five-eighth Braith Anasta made the stunning revelation last night that a high-profile Sydney Roosters player phoned to sledge him after winning the 2002 grand final.

Anasta refused to identify the caller who delighted in the Bulldogs having been forced out of the 2002 finals series by the salary cap scandal.

The call has been burning in the No.6's mind for the past two years.

But it was sweet revenge last night when the 'Dogs were able to beat their fierce rivals 16-13 in tonight's grand final at Telstra Stadium.

"I'm so happy that we beat the Roosters," said Anasta in the dressing sheds after the victory in front of 82,127 fans.

"I got a phone call from one of their players in 2002 after they won saying 'sucked in for getting kicked out, we won the comp'.

"I'm not going to say who it is but 'egg on your face' - that's all I'm going to say.

"I've kept it quiet until this day. I haven't said a word about it.

"It's been in the back of my mind ever since then.

"He knows who he is, so sucked in. Ever since that day I've never forgotten about it. I hope he has a good day tomorrow."

The Bulldogs were stripped of 37 competition points in 2002 and finished with the wooden spoon after being caught for massive salary cap breaches.

It was dubbed the "grand final that never was" after the NZ Warriors appeared in the decider, going down 30-8 to the Roosters.

The Roosters have advanced to four of the past five grand finals, winning only the 2002 decider.

speculation as to who did it is pointless, and it's easy to just say it was a player leaving, therefore no longer a Roosters problem or player.. Could have been Walker, maybe even minicheillo's first phone antics before lending his mobile to Gasnier some 2 years later, could have been anyone.

Hodges is a thug. He was trying to pick on Tonga (with fists..) And tonga ran over him every time, Would have loved to see Tonga belt him a few. All in all, they were team mates and Hodges still was a thug.

Got nothing to do with the fact that he's leaving. He's is the biggest smartarse that played in the 2002 GF.

Walker was still at the Broncos then and Mini has more class than that.

Hodges is a soft thug. The type of guy that like to act like a bully....and who end up holding in face while everyone laughs at him.

Heck, I think Walker is tougher then Hodges!

Anasta is an absolute tosser! He's so full of himself and got rightly voted the NRL's most over-rated player last year! If he got called by a roosters player in 2002 then it's fair enough because the dogs didn't deserve it that year.

Anasta has had a shocker all season, he should consider himself a lucky bloke to have partaken in a team that won the grandfinal. To be honest the Bulldogs should of kept Thurston at the club because they're much better off.

i believe Anasta, i reckon he's a pretty honest bloke, and there is at least one Rooster in Justin hodges who seems to love giving shit to his opponents.
