Its the GF, you're up 8-6, the boys are pumped there's great body language with plenty of fist pumping and back slapping. Why would you freakin bother getting a whiteboard out. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Brian hasn't learnt from his previous disapointments. I thought he should have pointed out some suttle changes and kept the positive vibe upbeat rather than making them sit around like school kids.

Wayne on the other hand brought out his key play makers and provided some simple instruction.

I thought it was interesting to watch the master and the apprentice at work. Bennet clearly the master!

Think your being harsh on Brian. He still has things to learn but he didnt cost them the GF, Wayne Bennett just took it off him.

Smithys biggest problem is he often out-smarts himself.

I've stuck up for Smith for years but tonight I feel I've finally been proven wrong.

Worst motivator in the game.

I noticed he got the team into a huddle in the dressing room about 20 mins before they were ready to run on while the Dragons were going through training drills. The Dragons left their huddle until after they ran onto the field to get fired up only moments before the kick off. I'm no expert but it seemed that Smith was getting the boys fired up a bit too early.

Both of them are great-coaches, Smith's brilliance throughout the year justifies that claim....Bennett and his Dragons, however, played to the style that they win with, and it clearly worked.

and Bennett copped criticism last year for not being able to change his side into a team that could step up in finals. the wheel turns, yet some people always have to find someone to blame.

Brian Smith took a rabble of a club from wooden spoon to 2nd in the comp within 1 year - i don't think he is anyones apprentice!

I don't understand the criticism. If this is what smith has done every game this year, why would he change it.

Was at the game so didnt see the whiteboard, but f**k me that had nothing to do with the end result.

A push in the back on Perrett, Saints score and hit the front and as the rain came down they scored again and it was all over red rover.

Tough break for Smith because with a bit of luck they could have gone to the halftime sheds 3 tries to 1 up

I dont think he's a bad coach, but his timing on the whiteboard thing was poor. I mean what are you going to coach someone at half-time of a GF. Emphasis should have been to stay focused and pumped. It's all about maintaining the rage and edrenalin. I do seriously hope he does win one eventually...

Whiteboards should be left in the video session rooms tuesday evenings. Agree it had nothing to do with the end result, but interesting to see contrasting approaches from 2 very differen't coaches.

Was at the game, Dragons uncharacteristcally far too many errors in the 1st half which enabled Roosters to attack a lot more than probably thought they would and should have scored a few more points.

Dragons had a ton of luck, Morris foot into touch, then next play Nightingale scores. Young score a try of his own knock onto a roosters player, before regathering and scoring. Push in the back on Perrett then try to dragons. Officials spoilt what could have been a game down to the wire

I thought the drunk bloke that ran onto the field just before the game trying to climb the goal post was quite entertaining

What would any of you know about coaching? How many 1st grade games have you coached? Give it a rest bringing out a whiteboard lost them the grand final come on they came up against a better team on the day and the conditions were terrible for the way they like to play

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Gret effort by Smitty to get to the GF. Have a look at the side his has got - this Roosters side is young and should be challenging for the title for the next 3 years.

Doesn't work that way anymore mate.

Teams are prepared to offer young players a lot more money than in the past so the salary cap splits young teams up very quickly.

This is why the past 4 grand finals have been won by fairly old sides (with a couple of kids sprinkled in).

wow - still sooking about the use of a whiteboard? .... fmd - is that you raaaaaay? .... sick of having a cry about the parra board so you thought you'd jump back on your really old whiney bitch topic?

gee i wonder if they used that same whiteboard before the first half where they came out and played better than their opponents? ... no i guess not - I bet just before halftime brian sent someone back to their moore park training rooms with a truck to bring it over just for the halftime break

you seriously think using a whiteboard is a sign of bad coaching? talk about carrying a lame grudge

Vince Lombardi (legend NFL coach) used a (black)whiteboard. All the good coaches to over there do. Even the NBA coaches use a mini version. Why is it a bad thing again ?
