Just when I thought I might be able to take this quiz into the fast money round and you come up with the answer.
It is Doug Laughton

Started his career with St Helens and also played with Wigan and Widnes.
He was on the 1970 Ashes winning tour.
He turned his back on the Lions' captaincy and captained Canterbury Bulldogs instead in 1974. He was sacked as captain and walked out mid season. Canterbury went on to be Grand Finalists.
He returned to Australia in 1979 as captain of the infamous 'Dads Army'British tourists. They were the first team to fail to win a Test match in Australia.
Laughton later became CEO of Widnes and is rumoured to have handed out harsh treatment to Australian club players in England.

Score: Tigertread 2
Lord Ted 1

Willow, Frank Myler is Tony Myler's uncle. He was GB captain during the 60's.

Gav... I thought by putting up an English 'Who Am I?' it might deny Retread a head start.
I really thought it was a hard one this week.

Willow,
I was lurking last night whenthe quizmaster struck on schedule.I read the question, thought to myself, piss easy, attempted to type in the answer and the reply part of the computer shit itself.I figured you must have managed to somehow cut me short, cause you knew that I knew the answer. So frustratingly I watched as answer after answer was wrong.
Anyway, reading the answer today and seeing retread has overtaken me will make sure that I'm here and all systems go next Wednesday evening.
P.S. My answer was wrong.

Lord Ted, Mal Reilly played for his local side Castleford here in the UK.

Willow, Frank Myler was the GB captain during the Lions 1970 tour. He went on to become the Lions manager.

Gav,
Thanks,I knew Reilly played for Castleford, but reckoned that he may have started at St Helen.
.Willow sucked me in, I've made a goose of myself, and you put up the reason why I was wrong.
And I would not have guessed(much less known) the answer was Doug T Laughton as I had forgotten about him.
