Who found Rugby League message boards through the footy show link

I can't remember how I ever got on WORL. I was on it in early 2001, stopped using it for a while, came back in June or July/01, didn't like how it had changed and somehow fortunately discovered LWOS. But I can't recall how I got on WORL for the first time. I was searching around for information about RL because I'd become interested in the fact there was this other rugby code I knew little about. Somehow I ended up on WORL. Since I can't get RL on TV here, I'm sure I would have lost interest long ago except the quality of LWOS has kept me hanging around

I found World of Rugby League back in 1998 when the NRL had no website for most of the year before they put up a page at year's end which was as well looked after as mothballs in a cupboard. WORL was a great place for getting information on Rugby League.

From that time I joined the messageboards (back before the days on msn) and contributed to them until they ran through ninemsn. My computer wouldn't accept communities for some reason so I lurked for about a year before finally being able to join. From there I have followed the messageboard to both LWOS and The Grandstand.

Cheers.

I used to spend most of my time annoying the crap out of Christians in MSN comms, I was bored one day and clicked on Professional Sports on the Groups homepage and noticed WORL. Sad day for WORL indeed, but the Christians are still very happy apparently. I found LWOS from a link posted in WORL.

I did.

At the end of the VB footy tipping comp. I thought I would try the rest of the links and there was the WORL in my face. That has been taken off now though.

I found it through a link on Jubilee Avenue before it switched over to the dark side.

I was looking for League news back in 1999 and WORL (the website) was one of the first sites that came up in searches. I discovered the WORL board from there. A few months later Legend set up LWOS after the WORL board lost a lot of it's original character with all the "Girds kiddies" arriving via the footy show board. I defected to LWOS pretty quickly as the majority of posters who's contributions I enjoyed had made the switch.

I think I just went looking for league info back in 98 and WORL was the firstsite that popped up. I remember posting on the old-school ultraboards about souths getting booted and fans sticking togetheror some simmilar drivel. Cant think of too many"ultraboarders" who arestill around, although Ozbash and Meltiger were already veterans when I arrived.

I used to post on the Ultra Board under the nick Marty. Used to post on the Casual Forum boards before that for a little while too. Did you post on that Ed?

I bought a PC early 2001. The 1st site I found was ozleague.com.

The discussions were pretty good on that site, but you couldn't register your name so there were a few who impersonated other posters from time to time. It only ever had one topic going (although many different issues were usually discussed), but often when the topic was changed the old posts were lost, and debates halted mid-stream.

One guy mentioned WORL in a post once, so I had a look, and the fact that each member had a unique id, and the debates kept going were positives.

After a coupleof weeks I heardabout LWOS and joined soon after, haven't been back to the WORL MSN community since, although I occaisionally have a look at the grandstand forum when I have nothing to do to see what topics they are discussing.

In 1995 or 96, the ARL had a website and it had a tipping comp.
The membership was quite low (in the dozens I guess) so I managed to score a prize, namely a set of footy cards. I wonder if anyone else remembers this.

They also had a message board with at least one question or answer being posted every day...lol... it was all very new.

All things considered, it was quite innovative of the ARL to do this.

I quite certain that the ARL was the benchmark for sports websites between 1995-1997. They even won a couple of prizes but i can't remember what they were.

The first ever site i posted at was the Wigan Warriors board. It was my first and most definitely my worst ever post.

I also posted under in the Casual forums on rleague.com under r990204. It was exciting times when we eventually cracked 20 members.:)
The only people i can remember on those forums are ozbash and meltiger although Marty does ring a bell. Took me a year to figure out that meltiger was a guy,i thought Mel stood for Melanie.

Ages ago, I ask you what r990204 means...can't remember the answer.
I thought it might mean 4th February 1999 but I think you set me straight.
