Since its a one day comp and not a test comp, New Zealand. They're in pretty sharp one day form ablitterating Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies and England in quick succession.

Australia deservedly favourites.

NZ definitely. Im English though so i hope england have a good tournament but they probably won't considering our current ODI form

New Zealand are ranked second in the world, and have recently won the Natwest Series, and knocked Pakistan and South Africa at home last summer.

Their group is the group of death as whoever loses is out. And remember Australia has done nothing in this tournament (this is their bogey tournament) so they have a lot to prove.

NZ are a bunch of useless dropkicks but always come together as a team and play well against the Aussies. So India or NZ. India more likely though.

Yes they are bunch of useless dropkicks who got themselves to 2nd in the world

I'm sure South Africa, India, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Bangladesh, Kenya would not mind being as useless as New Zealand.

Given New Zealand is in the same pool as Australia, I would say New Zealand as whoever loses is going home.

The ICC rankings mean very little to me. I have seen better and IMHO more accurate ranking systems (see for eg www.rediff.com/cricket). I'm sorry if you don't like it I just don't rate NZ highly, although so few teams in world cricket come close to the Aussies nowadays that you would rather watch them than a lot of others. They are mentally tough but talent wise they are very thin on the ground.

There should be another option, and it would be:

No-one. Give them the trophy now.

No-one can match Australia in a one-day tournament. The only team with the required mental strength, New Zeland, have been obliterated by Aus the last few times they've met. The VB Series at the beginning of '02 was a long time ago.

India and South Africa have the playing talent, and to a lesser extent so do the other two sub-continent big guns, but behind closed doors they all know as do Australia that they can't beat Australia in a Final. Mental strength. Or as Steve Waugh and before him AB called it...Mental disintegration. ;-)

India for me, definately. NZ and South Africa are good, England are overrated and no-one else even rates a mention.

You have to remember that in the one dayers, Australia has to have a shocker with their full line-up to lose. However, and despite this India have the talent to get runs but can they defend it? New Zealand and England would be my darkhorse, as both teams have played well over the past year!

India for me. They always play well in England in the one dayers, the conditions suit their bowlers. Add that to their superb batting line up and they should be pushing the Aussies all the way.

NZ are - and how do you define "obliterated" - I don't have a perfect recall, but since that series in which NZ dominated - and Steve Waugh was sacked, there was only the WOrld Cup when Shane Bond destroyed your batting line-up until Beaven played sensibly - unfortunately our batting was poor.

NZ are the big threats, but Aust the favourites. WIth Warne and McGrath back they look good, but they don't have much bowling beyond them and Gillespie - the rest are ordinary as the Indians showed.

For some rason though, the Australians don't handle India well - the secret is doctor the pitches, we showed the world that!!

You're right, you don't have a perfect recall. The most recent clash between Aus and NZ was in the TVS cup in India last year. NZ were first out of the tournament, Australia beat them in 3 matches I think, India 2.

On home soil coming off a great year I think England will be out to prove a point against Australia and South Africa whim are there next two opponents.

i think the biggest threat to Australia are themselves and how seriously they take the tournament.

SA are in decline at present. But how far have they fallen ???
England are on the rise but how far have they risen ???
India have the batsmen to trouble Australia but they have failed in ODI cricket to Australia when the pressure has been applied.
NZ our arch enemies from across the Tasman have the plan to beat us and rise to the occassion.

Should make for great tournament.

If we are on song, no body.

But if we are off key, NZ.

New Zealand are one of the best one day outfits in world cricket. Their squad is peppered with all rounders, and also a top order that can fire on their day. But they need the right conditions I think for their bowlers to be effective.

England is perfect for them. If we don't win it, I think the Kiwis will.
