Who is better, Meninga or Lewis?

I vote Mal (why no poll?). He did more overall when you look at his club and rep history. He also has done more after his footy career and I think did more for league in general than Wally did.... Plus Wally is a bit think (trust me, speak to him and see) and was a arsehole on the field sometimes while Mal was a lot more mild mannered (plus he can hold a conversation with-out an auto-prompter).

Wally Lewis is the greatest player to ever play the game. he played like 4 seasons in the NSWRL so u cant really judge on that. He totally dominated the brisbane comp, then went on to dominate several origin series and then went on to dominate the poms and kiwis he is awesome.

Clive Chuchill the best captain? Jack Rayner was Souths captain that Churchill played under. Churchill only really captained the rep sides.

Lewis and Meninga were both overated. Lewis never did it at club level (don't give me this QRL garbage either). Meninga 94 'roo tour was a gimmee - no way he deserved to go on his playing ability.

If you want to talk Queenslanders, I'd rate Allan Langer ahead of both of them. langer was a brilliant player for club level from day 1 at the Broncos to day billion when he retired last year. His rep form let him down, especially in roo tours, but early on he was awesome.

Wally was a very passionate skipper - and that was his best trait. But neither had the club inmpact that Langer had.

That's not entirely right. Stuart was red hot favourite to be the halfback on the 1994 Kangaroo tour, but Langer's form was so good in the leadup matches that he was given the number 7 jersey in the first test. Australia lost that match, but Langer was voted the players' player. He was still dropped. There was little more that Langer could have done on that tour, but the Daley-Stuart combination was preferred for the final two tests.

As for Wally, you can't just dismiss his QRL career - that is is where he played the majority of his career. During his time in the NSWRL, his form for the Broncos was nowhere near as bad as some people have tried to make out, and he was well past his best when he played at the Gold Coast.

As for the original question, give me Wally any day. He'd have to be close to the best big game player there has ever been.

Typical Sydney bullshit, if you had actually seen Lewis play at club level in Queensland, you would have seen a man that dominated more games than anyone else, as for Meninga, someone else pointed it out previously, he WAS a bludger for the first few years of his career, and blossomed later on

For mine, it is Lewis by a country mile.

Club levelin Queensland was a fair bit below club level in a national comp. I think Meminga had harder club games than Lewis did pre '88. Post '88, Lewis's form wasn't great. Brisbane only made the finals once with Lewis, remember.

There is no doubt that Stuart was better for the roos than Langer in 1990.
