Graeme Hughes was by far the best and his loss in favour of Ray Warren when the contract went to Channel 9 was a great shame. If Andrew Voss is ever, ever, ever, allowed to commentate on a regular basis, I won't watch Channel 9 ever again. He is the most intensely annoying person on the commentary team, apart from Phil Gould.

While on the UK callers, Stevo is good for a laugh... I used to think he was good on the ABC TV cover...

Yeah Hughesy for mine was the best I guess.

Rex Mossop was the caller when I was a kid, and he wasnt bad I suppose, though he had a bad habit of saying "It looks like the battle of balaklava out there", if two or more players were injured.
"Flabbergasted!!"

He retired or was booted for a while then made a very very forgettable comeback....so bad it was embarrasing....Sterling, out to...err, ahh....the centre, he passes to err ,umm....

I voted Smith, basiclly coz Sterling and Fatty are carrying Rabs at present he is forgeting things, stuffing up and isn't calling 2 games a weekend very often anymore.

Rabs. His 'AGE SHALL NOT WEARY HIM~!@!@#' call after Freddy's try in the Anzac Day match this year was absolutely classic. Other commentators might know more about the game, but nobody in the business can add more emotion and drama to a game than Rabs.

Shows his mind is still working!

Hughes.
Nowadays, I watch Footy with the sound down, if only there was a way to switch off the commentary track.

Just the right "light and shade". Never let his personality overshadow the game he was calling. Hasn't called since OptusVision bit the dust.

Of the current crop, it's Voss, Rabs, Smith....
In that order.

I believe he's coming to Fox Sports next year, too.

Rabs has past it IMO. Too many times does he mistake the identidy of the person he is calling out.

Warren Smith

I was always a fan of TK's and I don't mind Andrew Voss.

Smith, Voss, Sterling & Matty Johns on the sideline.

Fatty should be kept as far away from a mic as possible during games. He adds nothing but dumb childish comments. Sterling is fine but needs to give the bundy rum telestrator a bit of a rest.

i would like to stick that bundy rum telestrator straight up his (_._)
If he said this i would be ok with it:

"if you freeze play here you can see that Chris Walker has NFI about where he should be in defence"

Rabs lost it for mine when he made a messiah of Gordon Tallis and Lockeyer in every game. I can remember a game a few years back when Parra beat brisbane, and Moodie had a blinder. He hardly got mentioned, because Lockeyer was on the paddock.

The Pommy duo are good. Professional, with just a hint of bias to raise a laugh. Anyone note the classic on the weekend? Stevo: "What's going to happen when Craig Wing gets on?" Eddie Hemmings: "He's already out there Stevo"....

Best commentator ever? Frank Hyde. Without peer. Commentated from the sideline with a mic, a fold up table and a chair. No co-commentators. No replays. ONly took a breath during an ad. If it was a 30 deg day, he'd get sunburned. Didn't matter. And he had an audience of almost a million on a good day. I know it was radio, no one has compared since.

Rabs is so afr in front of the others for mine.

There's seriously nothing like emotion, when it comes to the big games of rugby league. I was watching the 89 GF the other day, and the commentators on there were terrible... Bland and unentertaining. I then put in the 94 GF, and said to my mate "This is how a GF is supposed to be called."

Nothing like emotion... He may not be the most knowledgable guy ever, but he still knows a fair bit.

Still as red as an inflamed haemorrhoid. Suggest you speak to lighting and makeup re: solving the problem.
