I'm not sure Hindmarsh should be in the team in 2011.:eek: Never thought I would ever say that.

If not the obvious choice Hindmarsh.. I would have Timmy Mannah or Dan the man.

Timmy has the form as the Toyota Cup Capt, but obviously would need to crack the starting team regularly before he could undertake the role.

Daniel I think will be a long term Eel despite all the crap talk about him and the Dogs. That was just a smokescreen as much as Souths were for Hayne a few years ago.

As outsiders looking in I don't think any of us know who the best leader is. Only the players and coaching staff know that. So I shall refuse to vote and let those in charge make the decision as they know best and respect that decision no matter who is made captain.

Luke Burt for me...a veteran, a very intelligent bloke and one that is well thought of among the guys. Ben Smith is a very good option too IMO and still has plenty of years left...but I'd give him a year or two to adapt to the backrow before adding that responsibility and in the meantime Burt is the logical choice for me.

I'd go with Ben but no doubt Burty would also do a great job, either way wouldn't phase me.

I have the same concerns re Manah as with Hayne, IMO not mature enough just yet.

I personly question the idea of a winger as the captain.. to far from the action IMO. Ive never been a fan of halves as captains because I believe they are natural leaders in the structure of a team both in offence and defence and have enough responsibility then to have to think about captain stuff, esp for young halves.

If I would say Mannah, Hayne and Smith are the only sensible options. If it was passed on to benny he could do it from 2011 but if its to be Hayne or Mannah they need some more exposure and to be in the starting line up in Mannah case who would still have Fui and Poore ahead of him, in which case Hindy should have it for 2 years before one of these guys can take over.

Whats wrong with you lot, no mention of Jonathon Thurston who is going to steer us to 5 consecutive premierships after he signs a 5 year deal

Nathan Hindmarsh - doesn't want it
Luke Burt - would be good, but too far away from mid-field
Jarryd Hayne - not captaincy material imo
Tim Mannah - who? hasn't even fully established himself in first grade yet
Daniel Mortimer - you're kidding me? see above
Kris Keating - probably second best on this list after Burt, if he re-signs
Timana Tahu - you're having a laff...

Seems like Ben Smith has been all but confirmed, if Cayless is in the press supporting him as successor.

Sounds like his experience level is similar to the man (when he was made captain) who just last week became the only player to have captained the same side in 200 first grade games.

Probably hasn't started 12 NRL games yet... come back to me when/if he has.

He only has to play another 6 or so games this season to match the amount Cayless played when he was made captain. I'm not suggesting he should be made captain, I'm just stating leaders are born not bred, so we as just fans, have no right to rule anyone out for the leadership role.

to answer the question - I honestly have no idea .... I think Hindy is the obvious choice, but I don't know whether he wants it or has the right temperament as his career comes to a close - and there's the whole issue with the youngies/oldies not getting along .... other than him I don't think the obvious choices have the experience

But we have a right to an opinion, based merely on the limited amount that we can see and know.

I can't see Mannah having any on field leadership qualities tbh. Good luck to him if he surprises me, but I highly doubt he'll be a 2011 captain.
