But we have a right to an opinion, based merely on the limited amount that we can see and know.

I can't see Mannah having any on field leadership qualities tbh. Good luck to him if he surprises me, but I highly doubt he'll be a 2011 captain.

Only to a point. The only ones who truly know who is the best leader are those 16 blokes playing under him every wek. We can have an opinion.... but a captain leads a team. HIS team. We can look at it from the outside and say "oh yeah, he's the oldest... he's the most experienced" but that means nothing. Unless that player has leadership qualities it's pointless to consider them for that role.

The team's best or oldest player is not always the best leader...

I guess you want to think about the future too. Ben Smith sort of bridges that gap between young and old.

Hindy is the obvious choice and i would be equally as happy with Benny but i went KK, he has all the characteristics of a captain imo.....

So roughly 2 or 3 years guranteed with the club. In all honestly I reckon he would probably make a good captain but I think he will eventually be a player squeezed out of the club. Could be a bit of a gamble giving the ( c ), especially if he doesnt set the world on fire in the next couple of years.

Not long ago people were blowing up deluxe when he got signed on a 4 year deal by hagan.

The thing to remember is that in a couple of years time he will be the most senior player at the club if he stays on. I cannot see Burt or Hindy sticking on beyond their current contracts.

The other problem I have is that he has barely cemented a spot in the backrow and was shifted there last year through lack of depth and because we had solid centres. A full strength and firing team this year and he would only crack a bench spot IMO.

I like Tim Mannah, but, he is a big kid in so manys ways. Maybe in the future, he could be captain, but not now. Let him develop.

Im sorry, you cant have someone who likes to play practical jokes on people, and sit there & giggle, and expect the rest of the team to listen to him prior to taking the field, or when you are behind the posts.

Its first grade - not boy scouts.

Not that I disagree that Mannah is too raw....but the world's biggest prankster Mickey Vella was always a good skipper when he ran out for us in that role and has done wonders at Hull KR

If Hindy wanted it, no doubt he should have. Same as Burt. If not those two, the rest of the list is pretty ordinary. I also disagree with the comments that Hayne isnt captaincy material! he has passion, escpaically a passion to win. Our next captain needs that after Cayless...

Of course they do. But there's a hell of a lot to being a captain than just having passion. You need a stack of other qualities.

Even though I think he'll probably leave, and that it won't be a bad thing for the Eels if he does, Mateo might be worth considering. He might play better with responsibility. But he'll most likely leave at the end of the year.

Inu is another option but he might be too quiet.

NO to both Inu and mateo. id rather a cheeky in the face of refs captain like Hayne than than players who wont talk to the refs or yell at the other players.

I can't imagine your logic in picking either of them for captain apart from the fact they both play for the Eels.
