Who should the Storm sig/re-sign/let go?

It it seems Orford is on his way out, I would personally let go Andrew McFadden as AFAIK his contract is up and he has not re-signed AFAIK and with Nathan Friend and Cooper Cronk in front of him, plus Marty Turner and Cameron Smith who can play half is to far down the pecking order and I do not see a future for him at the club.

I would be shocked if Danny Williams was not re-signed and apparently Dallas Johnson is in the same boat.

Stephen Kearney's contract is up so I guess that will be down to whether he wants to play on or not or go and boost his retirement fund in England.

Rodney Howe I would look to give him a 1 yr deal (on far less money) but with a reminder that he is no certainty for the Storm line-up each week, or give him the option of leaving.

Backs we are covered in, maybe another half back if it is true Ox goes. If Moala's contract is up, I would not re-sign as I do not see him with a future at the club.

Oh BTW Earl you mentioned Tim Smith from Parramatta, I believe his contract expires next year.

Howe and Mcfadden should not be re-signed IMO even for less money.
I think we need another class fwd or 2 in the team, even if it means at the expence of Orford.

Out: Howe, Moala, McFadden, Orford, Kearney (I reckon he will go to England)

Sign up: Kidwell, Johnson, Williams, Friend, Cooper, Webster, G.Turner, Tanielu.

Then look at recruiting another young half to add some competition for spots and look at 1-2 quality forwards that should be easily affordable if the above all go.

I wouldn't sign McFadden either.

I don't favour releasing players while in the middle of their contract as we will still have to pay them even if they get picked up by another club.

Id like to keep kearney for one more year, and as for orford, wasn't his decision supposed to come out today? Anyways, im still positive with orford, as for mcfadden and moala and howe, they have to be released. They are long gorne. As for kearns and kearney, if kearney does decide to stay he will def retire end of next year, same with kearns as well i think. So we have chan, but we have to invest in another young second rower and another young prop. If orford stays and we get two good young front rowers, my god our side will be intimidating. With the likes of hill, orford, slater, smith, king and cronk and geyer. Also chan and williams etc, our side i think by 2006 will be premiership winning material. Looking forward to the future for our team, we just keep getting better in my opinion, we just need to make sure we keep slater and smith at the storm forever, and keep bellamy for a long time.

The key in trying to re-sign Ox is to keep him to stay for more then 1 year.

Kearns contract finishes up next year and at his age I think it is safe to say he will call it quits and remain a Storm legend :D

I think Kearney will go round for 1 more year and I doubt it will be anywhere else other than in Melbourne.

Kearns will go at the end of next year also. Unfortunetly I think Williams is past it and unless he plays for peanuts should be let go.

So heres my list;

Release; Howe, Moala, McFadden, Williams, Orford - unless he pulls his head in & Ben MacDougall who is keeping out the youngsters who can build a career with Melbourne. Something MacDougall won't be able to do.

Sign up: Kidwell, Johnson, Williams, Friend, Cooper, Webster, G.Turner, Tanielu & Chan if hes off - contract.

I'd like to see Robbie Tanielu given a better go at first grade. At the expense of Rodney Howe who is just pathetic.

And Craig I've been talking to some Parra fans and Tim Smith is definatly off contract.

If we sign and release the above, it should give us some very good $$$ to dip into the player market come June 30 8)

Canberra have offered him $270,000 and Manly even more than that.

I read in Big League last week that John Singleton has him on his hit list should the CC get in.

Which means he'll still be going round in 2006.

Yeah I agree, his aggression and experience is invaluable atm. Will assist in the development of some of our youngsters and I can't see him being on much money anyway.

Also a bit harsh on McDougall there, Earl. We can't have a backline consisting of teenagers only. It is good to see Slater, King, S.Turner, Webster and Cooper doing well there but we need some guys with experience in the mix. I doubt McDougall would be on a packet either, so it is worth our while keeping him (his contract expires end of next year anyway).

Agree on Tanielu and Kite though. It would be nice to get Kite, but he is way over priced if those reports are accurate. If we could get him for 250K, although expensive, might end up being worth it.

Manly have offered him 325k a year. Well over priced.

And Lucas if we don't start giving these guys a go in first grade they will leave Melbourne/Norths in search of an oppurtunity to play 1st grade. Thats certainly something I don't want to happen because Ben MacDougall got in the way.

On last nights fox sports news, they said Kite's contract with Manly is believed to be 400k a year...

A solid player, but not anywhere near the 400k bracket

It was 1.3m for 4 years.

outs= matt orford, rodney howe, alex chan, andrew mcfadden and i know its a really tough call but danny williams and steve kearney i would rather let them go 1 season to early than 1 too late if u know what i mean and maybe macdougall cause we have so much outside back talent.

re sign= dallas johnson, david kidwell and nathan friend wit a bit of faith i think he can play the danny williams role that danny has played so well ova the last 8 seasons.

sign = wit no quality half back on the market if ox goes i say we look abroard my thoughts are young Richard Horne from hull fc he's only 22 but has played at half for england and made his club debut at 16 and internation at 19 he has had a few year to mature at bit and if we lose howe alot of money will free up and maybe a sweetner for him cause of the exchange rate. he is a very talented player and one we should really look at. or maybe even try and bring adrian lamb back to aus.

Get rid of Howe, Moala and McFadden IMO. It'd be a pity to see Moala go though...he played well in the back end of last season I think but there is no room for him when you have talented and/or seasoned first graders i.e MacDougall (I rate him...sorry), King and Cooper.

We should sign Cooper again and King is a priority although I'm not sure when they are contracted to. Kidwell has to stay and it looks like he will. Also keep Dallas Johnson and Kirk Reynoldson...those 2 have played in first grade fairly reguarly in the last 2 or 3 seasons so its a good platform to build the forwards around. Think, a back row of Kidwell and Reynoldson in the 2nd row and Dallas Johnson at lock.

As for Keraney, I think he'll retire at the end of this season or go to England to lie down. I'm sure hes been linked to Wigan on more than one occassion. If Danny goes around for another season that'll be beneficial to the forwards.

My 2 cents on Orford...well I aint gonna suggest he get dropped to Brisbane Norths or say "to hell with him". If he goes he goes but I'd like to know soon what the story is. If we have Scott Hill for 4 more seasons after this we are still in good shape. We have a good backline and a group of excellent forwards so if Hill stays fit we still have one extremley talented player in the Halves...if Orford leaves Hill will just have to take on extra responsibility and call the shots and possiblly move to first receiver.

Just because you don't like him doesn't mean that he should go.

Has been one of our best when he has been on the field, has also given much more than Sargent has given the Cowboys this year.
