Ian millward to coach in 2018
Just speculation at this point in time
But his father bob was the co founder of the steelers so it is all starting to fall into place
Ian coached in England with some success and both he and Mary don't get along

W

why? He's doing a whole lot better than the geniuses in charge of
Souths
Penrith
Cowboys
CANBERRA
Parra
I was joking Mickey, one more game wont make any difference ein or lose, although I'd like to wait until after the rep disruptions to see if we're still competative.

No way as that Bus has long departed. Mary has Basil Millward exactly where he wants him.......in the back office working the numbers!

At this stage, it is hard to see who else could be an option. His two most experienced and likely rivals have been signed up, he has achieved enough this season to fight off any chance of another rookie and there is no realistic options in the ESL. The players seem happy with the majority of the first grade squad signed up so I don't think it will be long until management renew Mary. Interesting to see if the current form can be maintained under him.

I expect with the team we have now a 65% win/ loss ratio over the next 4 years and a shot of another premiership, Mary's win/loss at this point is 66% over the last 3 yrs , Like I said we play the Rorters, News LTD Storm, Scumulla and the Warriors and then a bye, Rep Season starts. If we are leading the comp by that stage I would be happy to give Mary a 2 year contract extension totalling 5 years, at the end of 2019 if we haven't played a GF we need to find a new coach.
I am sure Gus Gould stood down as head coach of the Roosters after 5 years because of the fact he couldn't win a Premiership.

Really there is no choice as it will be Mary as coach for 2018 and beyond. After reading Andrew Webster brilliant article in the SMH about Mary and the changes he has made, he now deserves the Head Coach role.
The big thing in that article for me was the respect he has from the playing group and him being described as "a players coach"
He certainly learnt from his mistakes and shortcomings & has adjusted accordingly, much to mine and many fans surprise. I'm back on the Mary JetSki to take the club forward.

With Widdop sealed, all we need now is for Dugan to sign during the halftime break on Anzac Day.

Agreed, it's good to read about all the positives regarding McGregor and the fact that there simply isn't any other respectable contender out there makes me not want to jump on the Mary JetSki but l promise not to spike his drinks while we're still winning. I'll reserve my judgment till the finals time.
Until then, hopefully onwards and upwards!

Nobody rated or respected our team or Coach. Many fans went feral against the Club, players, coach and board at the end of last year. I was critical of 2016 and what we had morphed into...
But we can bury 2016, this is a new attitude and structure that has helped us silence so many 'experts'....time to get behind Coach McGregor and acknowledge the Club has made massive strides from 2015/2016 season. He deserves a 2 year extension...

I'm sorry, just because the bookkeeper is liked by all in a company, doesn't mean you promote that person to the company financial officer. However, you may decide to rely on some advice from that person until you have selected the right person for the job.

Mary is the bookkeeper with duties stripped down to suit a temporary situation. I feel the company has already selected the new CFO who will start on 1 Nov 2017.

Who else is there Toovey or Elliot.

Anyone one else in this country has little to no experience and before the B Smith or T Smith names are thrown up B Smith hasn't coached in years and T Smith has stated he isn't coming back.

I am nott saying Mary is the answer but if no one else is any better it will be a struggle to get anyone.

I agree, you would keep the book keeper in their current role? Especially if they had shown improvement and developed over their time from starting with no experience. Just happens to be the bookkeepers current role in our scenario is coach.

Now the second part is, has the role been stripped down to suit him or are we one of the market leaders in the NRL, adopting a new model going forward? Much similar to the biggest sports in the world. NBA, NFL, NHL, European soccer clubs etc etc

Sorry Possum, I'm confused as I thought Ian Millward was the bookkeeper working the numbers on his white board balance sheet.
I really suspect that Mary will continue in the Head Coach role next year. I do not think there is anyone else in the picture.
