is it true that if your suspended, your not in contention of winning it?

No you lose 3 points for every match you miss through suspension. Get suspended a 2nd time and you can't win it.

its use to be the rule, isnt the case anymore. I 'think' the rule change ultimately led to another johns dally m

The rule change wasn't anything to do with Johns. The Johns haters just keep bringing that up. Yes Johns was one of the players not eligible to win that year, because he was suspended. But there were also around 10 other top-class players who weren't eligible. It was changed so a 2nd rate nobody wouldn't win the award again.

the rule was changed because johns was DQ'ed after a dirty cheap shot elbow on dykes
they changed it to accomidate joey's and future good player/bad sports brain explosions

but anyways, this award has been a farce for some time, it has next to no credability. But Smith will win it and win it comfortably

I concur - Cam Smith and it will be bloody well deserved!!

Although, geez I wish Hindy would get it one year soon, he is also well deserved of the acheivement

Kennedy, Hindy or Willie....

I think like last year with Prince & Hodgo and other players taking points off each other, the same may happen with Smith & Inglis, and one of the three above mentioned may overtake them.

As for those knocking an award voted for by Journo's I fail how to see any other type judges (such as referees) would be better judges...

Apparently the only reason Cam Smith hasn't been rested for the Storm is because of this, all other state of origin and rep players have but not Smith because he's in with a big chance.

Laurie Daley, one of the judges, seems to think Clinton Schifcofske is in with a big chance after a raft of superb performances.

If it was voted on by strictly past players then i would give it some cred.
But Ritchie/Hooper/DeKroo...no thanks

I think Cooper Cronk has a chance to I voted other.
Second will probably go to Mason.
And 3rd Lockyer.
