given the figures that i've heard get thrown around behind closed doors, particularly in regards to player valuations this season... i can't help but laugh at what some forumites believe a players value to be. the fact is, a players value is whatever someone is willing to pay for him... not what he offers on the field. just like the rest of society, the gap between well paid players and not well paid seems to be widening... and i see far far less "middle class" players anymore. it seems these days you're either on marquee coin, or on peanuts. in fact the only players you get for middle-ground coin are generally local blokes who don't mind staying at home for a bit less.
that, and all the middle-class players seem to be playing for bloody st george at the moment.
fact is - you have to pay overs and be aggressive in the current market to get anywhere. our club is in a very unenviable position at the moment with the cap raises and whatnot... and i think hodkinson going for nearly $300k a year pretty much typifies the current market.
