Why all the empty seats??

I know that can probably be answered in one word: FIFA...

But seriously, I'm noticing at all matches (except Brazil matches) a LOT of empty seats. This should never happen anywhere, let alone in a country of 170 million where football is a religion...

Is it the pricing? allocations? what is is? I hope they sort it out soon. Every seat is precious!

I can see it being better.

The IOC hasn't had enough time to rebuild the Hubris stocks to FIFA-like levels ever since the fallout from the Toilet Games of 1996.

But the locals won't be contributing at all to the crowds for Olympic sports compared to the World Cup.

Add in the possibility of regular violence in the streets and the internation tourists will be down as well.

The Brazilian economy is going to take a serious hit once these 2 events are done. A US$6-7 billion loss is on the cards (they are already predicted to lose $4 billion on the World Cup alone)

Apart from prices, the local airlines are ripping people off left, right and centre too. Get this, Australia have to fly about 1 hour in the plane to get from their training ground to the stadiums they play their games. Like Sydney to Melbourne everytime. Not fun.

A few of my mates are over there. Prices are ridiculous, even at the matches with half empty stadiums. He wanted to go to the Argentina match but a ticket was around $900.

He had to pay $600 to go to the Aus Spain game.

Are those scalpers prices or FIFAs? Insane if that's the official price.

I know first hand that Category 1 tickets to Australia's matches were US$170 each. Quite reasonable.

I had tickets to all three but had to sell them back to FIFA because I couldn't go.

I think if FIFA reverted to its 8 stadia (2 per group) system that was in effect pre-1998, it would be a lot easier for fans.

The official tickets are reasonable but you could only get them through a ballot. So if you miss out on that, you're stuffed.
