Why arn't we serious??????

I have been wondering WHY we never seem to be serious in the player market. The only players we have signed that you could call big buys in recent years would be Kimmorley, Lomu and Vagana. This is a problem we have had for as long as I can remember. I hate seeing all these other clubs going flat out to buy first rate players each year and all we do is sign second rate players.
Here’s an example of our recent buys;
Seers “has been”
Saleh “ordinary”
Wessel “say no more”
Russo “Injuries Prone”
And now we have signed
Maiva “PL player”
Mellars “PL player”
Covell ? “PL player who can kick goals”
O'Farrell “who”
Oborn “who”
Harlen “PL player”
Yes we develop our own junior players and buy some promising young players but unless we start to sign rep quality players to bring these young kids along, then it will be all wasted.

but dont tell me covell, maiava, and god forbid the chinese 5/8 dykes who is being spruiked are worthy .

we only needed to add tahu and morrison to our squad to be a SERIOUS force.

but look no further than our pathetic board!!

the buck stops with them........no wonder one of our best called it quits.

i agree pogo, covell is a hack but i think maiava and dykes will add more to our squad than the over rated tahu and morrison would. I like a lot of the things you have to say on the forum but i'm afraid i disagree with the tahu and morrison statement you made.

Morrison apparently is favoured to sign with Bradford or Parramatta on big money.

Tahu has a massive offer from Parramatta of $400,000. (Why would we want to compete for his signature with that time of money being offered?)

Monagahn is being chased by Manly,Parramatta and Roosters and is desperately trying to be retained by Canberra. So you can imagine the rising bids from those 3.

So as you can see Sharkie 1973 trying to sign premium players this year is not easy business to do. Do u think they are over priced? Because I sure do.

Riddell was reportedly being paid $330,000 a season by Parramatta. Value there? NO

Whilst our current signings are not earth shattering names do you remember a certain player by the name of Amos Roberts who was practically unwanted by clubs last year and snapped up by Penrith for a steal? How many clubs wanted him this year? Plenty!!!!!

So I think the scatter gun approach Sludge has used this time around could work in our favour. They don't all have to work out for us but if any of these players produce the goods we have a top player on low wages.

By the way Luke Harlen was apparently signed on big money for a jersey flegg/premier league player. Sludge wouldn't produce $100,000 for him if he didn't think he was going to be something special.

Alot of the players you, Sharkies 1973 have stated are PL players wont remain their for long, Mellars, Covell and Maiava will not remain in PL for that long at all. The other players are either developing or still young, so of course they would be in PL. We are building up a well balanced team with youth and maturity and above all creating depth.

I hope your right Sharkies all the way, but the point I'm trying to make is we are buying players who may or may not produce the goods. I still belive we need to buy a couple of more experianced players who can bring these kids through.

Cronulla were extremely keen on morrison months ago, he hasnt been happy at cowboys. What happened and why we aint in the race is anyones guess, he would be a top signing.

Under Lang I think we bought less players, but the signings were more astute.

Stevens, Davidson, Nikau, Barnett, Green, Donaghy, Greenhill, Gallen, Campbell etc etc.

None of them huge names but they proved their worth with us.

We've bought more players under Anderson, but less than have shown their worth.

Maybe Nutley, Bailey, Noddy, & Sullivan definately
