Why Australia will never win another World Cup

Firstly I'm a League fan but do enjoy Union. I am not trying to dengrade Union just making an observation

Aust & NZ Rugby teams are in a Catch 22 situation.

If they are to win World Cups and beat the NH teams they will need to start plating a 'boring' style of Rugby.

Australia and NZ will have to focus on scummagging, field goals, goal kicking, etc. They will have to make the forwards bigger and more skillful in areas that are unattractive to the spectator...well the Australasian spectator.

Australasians have Rugby League which encourages skills that are attractive to the eye and which are encouraged purley by the nature of the game. Tuquri is an example of this....

In Aust & NZ Union tries to encourage a fast paced exciting brand of Rugby and so it should at the expense of trundling forwards and there so called skills.

If it tried to focus on the NH style of Rugby, spectators would turn away and watch League.

What should Aust & NZ Rugby do?

I hope they never resort to the terrible game they play in the NH

WEhen I saw the title of your post I thought you were a dope........ but you have a point. Big matches are won through domination.

You don't need to play boring rugby to win, Australia didnt lose because of scrummaging, field goals and penalty goals they lost because they got their ass kicked at the breakdown. Regardless of Johny's boot and Australia's woeful scrum if the Australian forwards had performed at the break down Australia would have won that match. It wasn't Johny's brillant boot either he kicked a mere 4 from 7, a poor percentage, he was lucky his forwards domination of the breakdown earned him so many shots.

The NZ forward pack isn't lacking, they choked and France defended brillantly and got a little lucky. The NZ forwards dominated territory and possesion, and the scrum was superior to Frances. NZ also had a better goal kicking percentage in that game.

Given no NH team has won in NZ or Australia since 2003 resorting to NH style of play isn't likely to help. Both teans also win more than they lose in the NH over the past few years. The NH approach has yielded 1 RWC from 5, historically Aus and NZ have winning records against all NH teams. You're reading far too much into 2 bad performances and massive upsets.

England didn't play boring rugby to beat Australia. They completely dominated the Aussie forwards and starved the Aussie backs of ball.

They certainly didn't play ten man rugby as everyone thought.

It's quite easy to ascertain why australia and new zealand fail in such tournaments. They are hell bent on scoring tries when they should be looking to accumulate points by way of drop goals for instance which are worth 3 points. Argentina for example kick quite a number of drop goals in their matches and if you manage to also kick a few penalty goals and score a try or two your well in the 20's in points scored.

You don't have to score a try to win a rugby match something that the wallabies and all blacks fail to understand.

not giving away penalties isn't necessarily playing boring Rugby.

Its just ill discipline

You cant blame the poms for the 4 penalties that we gave away within kicking distance.

I blame RL....no hear me out.....in RL possesion is gifted, the player is tackled he falls over wiggles a bit then get up and taps the ball back. After six tackles the ball is politely handed over to the opposition and then have a bash.

This is creating a nation of soft pussies who once they start to get bullied a bit they can't cope. League does not encourage true competition and creates soft players who don't want to get stuck into a proper battle. Some S14 teams have tried to copy this style of gentle girly rugby and while this might work against another team going for the soft approach, when they face a proper rugby team things go against them.

Cricket - fairweather girly sport - well suited to the Aussie Male

Rugy League - minority girly sport - well suited to the Aussie Male

Rugby Union - cheating Aussies.

We have won more soccer World Cups than you :sto:

and what was the score last time we played you in soccer, care to share that with us ?

I can't even remember when the poms last won a Football WC

Lucky they are trying to bring in a restricted import rule to the EPL or soon there'd be no poms playing in the EPL.

Good one Twizzle.

And with all the SH union players they're importing, watch as their depth plummets in the coming years. This goes for France too.

It must be a league thing to focus on one game but not the rest . Last weekend was the best weekend ever . The best rugby I ever seen in my whole life .;-)

He's that idiot that goes drink driving while the GB league side were sponsored by THINK! Road safety. A real gifted individual no doubt.
