Just reading a story that Leeds (i think it was) are making a game an all ticket affair, meaning you cant by tickets at the gate.

Why would you do that and reduce the number of people that might turn up on game day???

Apparently because of some building work at Headingly capacity has been reduced to about 20,000 so there won't be enough room for all those who want to attend. It will be a sell out.

They lock horns for the first time in 2004 on Thursday 8 April (8pm) at Headingley, and the Rhinos have taken safety advice and made the game all-ticket.

The odd thing here is that, apart from a bit of rebuilding on the cricket ground side, there's no obvious redevelopment going on down at Headingley at the moment....

They say they've sold 16,000 of the tickets (including season tickets) so far.

These limits BTW are enforced by the local safety authorities, not by choice of the club themselves.

The game is expected to sell out completely well before it actually takes place. I think the crowd for this fixture last year was 23k. Basically making it all ticket means that there wont be several thousand people turning up on the day only to be locked out because the ground is full.

I think it's a sensible decision, last year there were 23k in and parts of the ground were not safe due to overcrowding so with a restricted capacity it's a much better idea to have people given tickets with a specified part of the ground on.
