Why do people throw old shoes on powerlines?

A fascinating subject Jack, and one i'm up with the play on. I throw my old shoes up on the power lines after ive been picking pacific oysters in muddy mangroves. They clean up very nicely after a bit of rain and are ready for the next oyster hunt. Getting them down can be a mission.

There is an art to hanging them on the power lines, dont throw too hard and i find the "Shane Warne" overarm method the best. The "Chappell" underarm chuck can work but sometimes you'll get the wires touching if the laces are too long and you can end up with scorch marks.

If you need any more info regarding technique etc, just sing out. I'm only too happy to shear.

<insert payout target> was walking down the street with one shoe on.

I say "What happened mate, did you lose a shoe?"

<insert payout target> says " Na, mate, I f*cken found one."

at last years Big Day Out they had a competition for throwing shoes that were tied together onto a cable about 5 metres high

it was a promotion for the old gym boots style shoes

if the shoes stayed up there, you got a free pair

the most sucessful method was definitely the "Warnie"

some people had absolutely no idea

theres a few different meanings to it, one is where a drug deal will go down, another is to sort of respect someone who has died by throwing their shoes on the powerlines (dont know it just is like that) another colour coded way is to show gang territory (more popular in crips and bloods gang neighbourhoods in LA), in short it is mostyl gang and drug related

So these poor people where ozbash is throwing his shoes have probably had people knock on the door going "Got any gunja?".

What does it mean when there are a pair of undies hanging from the power line? I saw this the other day.

possibly that it is a crack house.
