Why do we need Israel Folau?

You forgot the most important ingredient for Parramatta success in 2013

That f@#ken merkin of a coach is gone. We still be free falling down the slippery slope if he was there.

Expecting a huge year from Tonga this year. The fact that he turned down offers to play overseas says he has unfinished business in the blue and gold. Hope he remains injury free and gets back to being the world class center that he is.

Any decent player being added to our current squad is an improvement at this stage. We risk running last otherwise. Other positions in the squad need improving first, but none of those players wanted to come here so we have to make do. None of these young rookies are that crash hot and it remains to be seen if they'll become genuine first graders.

For those who think we're in a 'predicament', what exactly is wrong with our roster? We have plenty of youth, good depth, and a couple of stars.

This year we had Luke Burt and three rookies play 80+ games between them. We also had long term injuries to key players.

Next year those rookies are a year wiser, Burt is gone, and what are the chances of two years in a row with the side decimated by injury?

For those putting shit on Willie Tonga, he was an Australian rep just 12 months ago, and an Origin player last year. If he can strong a few games together without injury he is still a very good player.

Hayne was awesome in his 12 games this year. We'll go a lot better if he can play most of the season.

Finally, Sandow showed glimpses of his brilliance throughout the year. If Mannah can get back to his 2011 form, and Lussick becomes the player he can be, Sandow will thrive on the improved time and space. If not we have Luke Kelly to run the patient game, with Sandow sitting back waiting for opportunities.

Your roster is fine, backs especially.

Ricky Stuart buys 'names', as soon as one is available he buys them. He virtually wrecked Cronulla with his buying strategy. I'm afraid to say he doesn't appear to have changed. There is only one winger in the comp i would contemplate paying 400k to and that is Uate and even he would be struggling to get it. Folau, has hardly ever made a line break and has two years out deliberately undoing all of the power, strength and speed work that the NRL put into him.

He showed no evidence of that this year. He was one of the most ineffective centres in the NRL.

He was injured when he arrved at the club, and never fully recovered. He only played twelve games for f**k's sake. You reckon he was at his peak for any of them?

You don't go from quality to shit in twelve months.

but spending a fair bit on an aging guy who's already injured is ok in a rebuilding period

;-)

btw - being healthy is a part of quality ..... doesn't matter how good you are if you are sitting in the concourse watching more often than not

I think that this thread is about denial. Anyway, this year Luke Burt was well past his best. He may have been a club legend but his impact wasn't great. We had three rookies; Morgan, Blair and Sio, of which only one, Morgan, has now become a safe bet in the backline. Sio and Blair may well step up. But Folau is light years ahead of all of them. He would be a potent attacking weapon along with Tonga, Sandow and Hayne. Put simply, if our forward pack competes adequately then a backline of Hayne, Morgan, Folau, Tonga, Sio, Kelly and Sandow, will win us games more often than not.

If the team puts as much effort into winning games as everyone has done into getting Izzy to sign then we will win the title. Back to reality, I am tired of all this shit. It can't be good for team morale or the pre-season training. It's only good for selling papers. If he ain't coming, which is becoming increasingly apparent, then so be it. Putting so much effort into one player is tempting fate.

Well obviously he wasnt at the open training session today, but Tonga and that young bloke we signed from Melbourne were and they were looking good.
