I'm not apoligising for this disgraceful decision by the ARL. But considering this decision is going to be a financial disaster for the British Rugby Football League, how about the Brits come here and any profits go back to British Rugby League.
On 2UE they read out a memo from David Waite. It read something like this; the British Rugby League are in $3m debt after last year World Cup and were expecting to make atleast $6m on this tour. With thousands of pounds already invested in this tour, the cancellation shapes as a financial disaster for British Rugby League.
Now think about this. Who is going to be using the SFS and ANZ stadium over the next month and a half? No-one. Are international flights from England to Australia majorly booked out? no. Australian Hotels are suffering massive downturns and are half empty. And Channel 9 has a void in their night time sport scheduling until the one day cricket kicks in.
For mine, I think they could easily arange a Lions tour to be underway within 3 weeks.
What have the NRL and RFL got to lose
