Why get rid of NRL Cheerleaders?

The NRL should definitely listen to a Victorian dictating to the NRL, a writer who contradicts themselves and gets simple facts wrong.

E.g. "Much like the now-defunct Lingerie Football League" -not defunct now called legends football league.

Let's ignore basketball and other sports with cheerleaders to just focus on why the NRL is the only sporting body morally corrupt.

"the women chosen for NRL cheer squads conform to a particular model of attractiveness with pin-up girl bodies and long hair." -Apparently being an NRL cheerleader is the only profession in the world determined on looks.

"The NRL should encourage its affiliated teams to transform their female-only squads that focus on sex appeal to mixed-sex cheer squads that are entertaining for their skills and athleticism or fan-led cheer squads, like those who support AFL clubs."
-And there's the AFL tie in.

Has anyone actually asked the cheerleaders what they want?

At the Panthers at least, the cheerleaders are chosen primarily for their dancing ability. It just so happens that girls who carry excess weight aren't going to be such good dancers. I'd be very surprised if facial looks enter into it at all. Many of the girls don't have what you'd call classically beautiful faces, but they are good dancers and that is what the recruiters look for.

Basically if you take enjoyment out of anything in life you should feel like a merkin. If you're a male - and God forbid a white one at that - then you better be hanging your head in shame and hating life.

I think cheerleading is extracurricular. Just because they dance with pom poms at the footy on the weekend doesn't mean they're braindead.

I knew a chick from high school who became a cheerleader. She reluctantly stepped away from cheerleading after she graduated uni as a doctor.

Every game I have been to (in recent history) has had male and female cheerleaders.

They have female leagues that are getting more and more media exposure.

I think your analogy is pretty disengenuous.
