Why is Merritt on the wing?

Yeah it's a better tactic than putting them in the centres?

Some people obviously missed Merritts houdini act of getting out of the in goal with 3 defenders on him and making it to the 20 metre line.

How did McGoldrick go when there was no one on him???

That's right he tripped over himself and got nailed and we gave the ball back for another raid.

Their must of been a huge divot that he tripped over because he's all class...........

When is everyone going to get over bagging the players they hate, regardless of how they played on the weekend.

Dragon Slayer - why belittle McGoldrick's performance to stick up for Merritt? I thought McGoldrick played quite well yesterday.

The fishing pretty bad today SS...
I'm not biting

Are you related to Merritt? Because you seem to think criticism of him is criticism of yourself

Clearly that is not the case so dont take it personally

I've only joined the anti-Merritt bandwagon this weekend
My reasons are that he is ineffective, he doesnt have the impact of the rest of our backs and for one of our star signings he's underperforming - considering he is being paid 180K a year

Obviously Nige is a worry too but this thread isnt about him

SS I've been talking Max Merritt up all season because in my troubled thoughts I thought he might be the savour for our kicking problems and his speed would solve our tryscoring abilities but alas I've come to the opinion he's either playing injured or he's just not good enough.I'd really like him to prove me wrong this weekend

Merrit has been dissapointing. I keep expecting more from a player with such speed, but he simply hasn't delivered. The run to get out of the in goal was great, but he has to do that more often.

He played better at Souths were he scored nine tries in about ten games.

Merritt has shown nothing since he arrived at the club.
It seems that alot of good players come to this club and then show nothing, for example Merrit, Nigel and Lomu. Maybe its time the coaching of these players was looked at instead of blaming the player all the time. Before anyone pipes up and says Lomu is doing good, a couple of offloads is not the definition of going good.

So you've now changed your mind mate?
I'll continue to keep him in my signature because I liked him as a player before he came to us,but Shireshark I'm still hoping he'll come good. He's just not playing with any confidence and I suppose while he's playing outside Nige thats not helping his cause either because Vagana is down on last years form too

you forgot mcgoldrick

plenty of sharks are playing well

stevo
kimmorley
bailey - in patches
nutley
peachey
hell even sullivan in attack

they are overall doing much better than last year

merrit thus far has been a dissappointment - surely you cannot disagree with that

lomu is playing well - good defence and sets up line breaks with second phase play again evidenced against penrith

vagana hasnt done anything yet

how you can blame the coach is beyond me

its the lack of player depth that has hampered us

I am of the view that Peach has maybe one more season in him, 2 at best. Merritt is a good player, we saw that at Souths. I think he is more about the future. Oddly enough, that U7 strategy that got mentioned before may be in play although he is not the worst player by a long way.

He is not playing too bad, he did have an injury earlier this year and may be still crook from it.

However, I do think he has some way to go to justify the $ spent.
