Why is Robson a halfback??

Like seriously, some of you para fans love him just because we started winning games. All he does is tackle, and offer little to nothing in attack. His got no long passing game. His got no long kicking game. Basically he offers nothing in attack. Thats what a half-back should do. Set up the attack. Robson plays like a hooker. All he does is tackle, n give short passes.

Mark my words. When KK comes in the squad, everyone, n I mean everyone will say robson who.

Oh and one more thing, his not a half-back. Get it through your heads. Why do you think it took him 10years to be discovered accidently.

Halfbacks are often about structure. They often drive and organise the team. If a five-eighth, hooker or fullback have kicking options then some of that work is often given over to them.

I don't think Robson needs to be moved away from the 7. Instead, I think you need to actually understand what a 7 can achieve.

We re-signed Robbo as an insurance policy. He will start at 7, but will step aside when we have better options. If there are injuries, he could play 7, 6 or 9 without any dramas. I bet he was still cheap even after his well earned upgrade.

A halfback needs to have the ability to organise each and every play, and has a set idea of what he wants from set 1 to 5, he also needs to have a good passing and kicking game. At present our halfback is noted for his defensive and not for his attack and that is a major problem.

Robbo has a big ticker and plays for next to nothing. He's nothing like Finch, who was on a much bigger contract and spat the dummy when told his game wasn't up to scratch. I know who I'd rather have in the side.

Finch had a big ticker and was very good defensively, but offered nothing in attack and kicked the ball down the fullbacks throat all the time, as long as he was no further than 30 metres back, he cant kick any further.

Just highlighted how much Finch was overpaid.

Only difference is that Robbo isn't overpaid.

Look Robbo did well, he probably over acheived. But the GF was a great example of why a team needs a decent halfback. We had nothing to offer. We could not get even a repeat set of six on the Melbourne line. We built no pressure. When Hayne was marked out of the game who stepped up? Feleti did but robbo apart from the kick for Reddy was absent.

We need a halfback that can take control and who has a decent attacking game. Otherwise, there will be no competitions for Parra.

I agree with ya lil eel. We won't be winning no comp with Robson at half, but also don't think he'll be our half I see Morts as having done he's apprenticeship this year and will be moved to 7.

My starting team for 2010 looks like this,

1. Hyane
2. Burt
3. Tahu
4. Reddy
5. Grothe
6. Keating
7. Mortimer
8. Cayless
9. Keating
10. Poore
11. Hindmarsh
12. Shackleton
13. Mateo
14. Mannah (not far from starting I think)
15. Moi Moi
16. ? not sure of what we have in the lower grades
17. ? maybe Robbo to come on at hooker.. not sure

Yes I have no spot for Inu. He ain't no center's @rse he's a winger but there's no way you could replace Burt and I'd rather Grothe over him on the wing. Tahu is a no brainier at centerer and Reddy shouldn't be replaced after the year he's had.

thoughts?

If Keating starts the season fit he will wear the six jersey. Personally with the embarassment of riches we possess in the backrow I'd move Mateo back to five eight. With Kingston now gone IMO it will be between Robson and Mitchell as to who starts the season at 14. Mitchell will get the job long term but as Robson can cover half and hooker with little issue I think that is where he will be used next year.

Sorry Colonel, Mateo may to a job at 5/8 for a week or two but he much better suited to the adlib possy of the lock position. He plays what's infront of him but at 5/8 he'd feel the pressure that he would have to create on every play. His game suffered earlier in the year because he was at 5/8 every week.

I have seen nothing in Mortimer's game to suggest he is a halfback. A top number 6 but not a 7. Kris Keating needs to prove himself but I think injuries may stunt his career.

I also like Mateo at 6, especially if we try Mortimer at 7. However who will play lock ? Ben Smith I assume. I however take Jake's post above as an indicator in relation to Mateo at 6.

Reddy could be turned into a wide running secondrower. He still makes too many mistakes at centre, defensively. He got hooked at centre in the GF and was replaced there by Ben Smith.

you serious?
he never got hooked, he copped a heavy knock trying to tackle Finch.

lol yeah remember he had a head clash...he hasn't been hooked all year! I disagree I think he makes great calls in both defense and attack. look lets just face it Inu is a winger nothing more and nothing less! Although he got a bit of hunger back this year there's no way he had a great season, even our miracle run over the last couple months he didn't impress me all that much can't think of too many tackles he beat or how many tries he set up for Burt. He still looked lazy at times and never really beat any players.

I forgot to add Ben Smith to my bench in my side :)

Mateo suffered at 5/8 because he didn't have a creative halfback inside him originally and was pretty much the go to man anyway. With Hayne in decent form and Mortimer playing well inside him there is little pressure on him to be the main playmaker. He can play whats in front of him from either position as Hayne and Mortimer are the ones running the show anyway.

Shackleton can play at lock.

What part of his game makes you think that Mortimer isn't a halfback? Is it his passing game, running game or his kicking game? Personally I think he is above average in all three areas and has more than enough smarts to make the seven jersey his for a long time. Keating is less a halfback than Mortimer is.

The game we currently play where the forwards play with the halves rather than in front negates the need for a true halfback outside of a strong kicking game anyway.
