Why it is all unravelling at Parramatta

Blind Frddy can see that it is a communication issue between Tonga and Burt, but in the end, the ball didn't even get that far.

If Burt jams in on the centre, Tonga should have come in on the edge forward. If this had happened, they probably through a cut out to the winger and make a line break anyway, so it was effectively a well worked play, executed well by their playmaker.

So we agree it was what happened on the inside that was the problem. I assumed you were trying to blame burt soley for the mistake but that was others.

What happen on the inside resulted in the try, however Robert's should have never been in a postion to go one on one Tonga and Burt over read the play and commited before the ball left Bowens hands.

Regardless those 3 should never have been forced to make one on one tackles in the first place. The Cowboys obviously realized we were short on that side and shifted the ball early. You can blame Burt, Tonga and Roberts (and they definitely deserve blame) but in the same token they shouldn't have been left in that position in the first place and that comes from lazy and un-committed defence from the team as a whole in the first place.

You can't blame the outside players for that though. If they come in off their man they create the overlap and he gets a pass away. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. There really should have been a backrower defending between Roberts and Tonga. That's really why the break was made.

maybe if we ran some of our bigger forwards like Fui at their smaller men on the edges we could pick up some tips how other teams defend this.

Another great read by the smartest player in the NRL

I reckon that one was Roberts' fault. He didn't move up quick enough.

I'm a fan of Ben Roberts but if he has a flaw it's that he doesn't work hard enough off the ball. Burt and Tonga might've been to blame for leaving him isolated except it looks like the team has been told to move up quickly out wide. That's why that one on our right side was Sandow's fault.

But that is what happen, Tonga has come up too early commited himself to Tate, Burt came off his wing commited himself to Tate leaving Grahem unmarked and allowed to provide support.

clearly we are instructed to jam in - we have had tries scored outside wingers on BOTH sides of the field regularly

it has worked at times too - in the warriors game the warriors made some mistakes trying to throw the ball to the winger that gets left open by this tactic ... the point of the play is to try and stop the pass or at least force it to be a mistake

given we are using that tactic - in the picture the problem is that tonga didn't push in and roberts hung back, giving taumal(whatever) an opening and single defender to exploit

the whole point of jamming in defense is to pressure the ball carrier into turning back in or throwing a shit pass .... players have to come up and in and commit inside - problem is you all have to work together and we didn't
