Why not Cameron White

Why not? Everyones like he doesnt have the technique to play test cricket, but neither did Gilchrist and neither did Andrew Symonds.

I think if we give this guy a go he will flourish. He has been close to our best batsman in ONE DAY cricket over the last 12 months or so. And I really believe if you are good enough to play (and succeed) in ODI cricket you are definetly good enough to play test cricket.

I know he had a crack in test cricket last year, but he is a better player I believe now. I also believe you have to persist with him and once he gets going he will be a perfect six for australia. Just remember when Symonds first played test cricket he was garbage, but once he got the confidence he turned out to be a terrific test player, and very consistant, until he went fishing.

I believe Cameron White is the same. And he can give us some part time leg spin, and he is close to the best slipper in the country. He also has a great state record and somthing like 15 FC hundreds, as opposed to Ferguson who only has 4, who seems to be what alot of people are calling for.

He'd be even worse then Marcus "sh*thouse" North, and he's a Victorian to boot, so no thanks.

Steven Smith is better simple as that IMO. Cameron White can play and is a good captain but if he is being picked as a middle order bat for the Australian test side we are in alot of trouble. We have a fair few good young batsmen coming through at the moment.

Good 20/20 player, handy one day player not a test players arsehole. The only way he would ever crack test cricket was as an all rounder. Now he doesn't even bowl.

Disagree with everyone. He is our best ODI batsman, or close to it. You can say his technique is not that of test cricket, but just think of Symonds. Once he got in the team and found his feet he was brilliant. He is also a cleaner striker of the ball than anyone in the team other than Ponting.

The only other two options being thrown up are Ferguson, whose just come back from injury, and state record is nothing, and Hughes, will only get in the side if an opening spot comes up.

No thanks. Either put Hughes in for North or drop Watson down

Not sure who can replace Hussey. If Ferguson is the best we've gone then geez it's not looking too good

Why do we need another Andrew Symonds in the test team, Symonds wasn't exactly the most reliable performer at test level. Steve Smith has to be next in line, even if you take away his bowling he's still probably the best young middle order batsman we've got, the fact that he happens to be arguably our best leggy and a brilliant fielder to boot should make it a no brainer.

White isn't a test batsmen period.

I think they should either go with

1. Kat
2. Hughes
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Watson
6. Hussey
7. Paine/Haddin

or

1.Kat
2.Watson
3.Ponting
4.Clarke
5.Khawaja
6.Hussey
7.Paine/Haddin

I like White, would prefer him to North, but I would prefer a lot of guys to North.
Selectors don't rate him as a Test player either it seems so everyone can breathe easy.
He would have to rack up a huge amount of Shield runs before he's locked in to the Aus limited overs matches.

Another great innings by Cameron White and to me he just seems to be getting better and better these last few years.. There is not a cricketer in Australia at the moment who can do what he just did, or take an attack apart like he can.

Whether Cameron White fires will be close to the most important factor to how we go in the world cup next year.

Form in one day matches is meaningless for consideration for Test selection. Look at the bowlers he took apart? Any Test bowlers there? No.. Same goes for thinking Hussey is back in form and Ferguson should be selected in Test Cricket.. In one day matches teams set defensive fields, rarely use their best bowlers.. Guys in the middle order face second rate spinners, all rounders and pace bowlers and bat on flat pitches with defensive field settings..

I think the problem with having players play both forms of the game these days is that I dont think all of them can play well in both forms of the game in a selected period other than a select few. Hussey is excelling at ODIs but his test form is poop in recent years.

I wouldnt mind seeing White replace North in tests, But I reckon either his ODI or test form (more likely) or both would falter badly. Chopping and changing from one form of the game to the other is not in some players DNA, and White is one of those players. Coming in the middle order of the ODI is his forte at the moment, lets not stuff that up
