Why not Cronulla and Canberra?

Both the Raiders and Sharks posted sub-9k crowds yesterday (only 7,000 at Toyota Park!). Both are current Top-8 teams.

So why is no one calling for their heads like they do for Melbourne?

(note: I am in no way denigrating the Sharkies or Raiders, only calling into question the hypocrisy of those wanting the Storm relocated solely on a crowd criteria... yet at least 4 other teams (add the Warriors and Bunnies) regularly have lower crowds than they do.)

7117 is shocking. That is worth than South Sydney home crowds(but Souths got over 23000 for their last home game :D and will get mmore as they get better)

Did you see the weather yesterday?!?
You you like to go and sit in the rain and get a drenching?

The Sharks were lucky it didn't rain during any of the 3 games last night. But given that there was absolutely NO family groups there last night, and ZERO Warriors fans, 7000 isn't all that bad.

After the good weather of thisseason so far, no one except the hardcore fan is going to go after a day like yesterday (especially when you could watch it live on FoxSports).

There last home game was at the SCG though. A spectacle if nothing more.

This has been coming. We've had perfect weather for most of winter, so it was obvious to me that as soon as the weather went slightly off, a lot of people would dog the footy for the comfort of a pub or lounge room.

Furthermore Shark Park is a shocking venue in the wet. At least Melbourne's crowd are very consitent, showing they have a hardcore bunch of fans who nearly always show up.

Just one more thing. Has anyone ever seen the weather in Melbourne? Cold and wet most of the time. So when Sydney club crowds are down, the weather shouldn't be an excuse.

It was freezing in Canberra, and not many people in Canberra would want to watch a game with NQ (even though I think they're one of the most entertaining sides in the league). They generally draw our lowest crowds of the year. No excuse though, it is a poor crowd.

Crowds Round 18:

St Geo-IIa vs Brisbane 15348
Canberra vs Cowboys 8771
Cronulla vs Warriors 7017
Eels vs Roosters 10188

Probably won't be much better today crowd wise with:
Manly vs Tigers
Souths vs Penrith
Bulldogs vs Storm

all sydney games with what looks like a rainy day.

It wasn't that cold???, actually it was pretty mild for a winter night.

Richo how can you say that 7000 isn't that bad - it is bad

It's bad, but so is 10,000 for 2 Sydney teams, one of whom is coming first and the other trying to get a spot in the 8.

The Sharks Warriors had two poorly performing teams, one from another country (so few fans at the ground) and who is coming last, and the other with two main players missing on a wet night in the middle of school holidays.

It IS a bad figure.
Very bad.

What I am saying is that there is a very legitimate reason for it.

Are you Bezant from the rleague forums?

Nope. Don't post on rleague.

As to the thread -- I'm not knocking the teams who drew low crowds this weekend (as most of them did) -- just saying maybe some people should lay off the Storm... keep in mind that they almost always have bad weather, and rarely have supporters of the away team there. Glass houses, folks.

and if anyone saw the game it didnt deserve anymore. You actually have to see the warriors play to see how bad they really are, and for the game to be that close it really tells how bad it was

Hey, teams from Northern Qld, Brisbane and even Newcastle come into Canberra in winter and locals KNOW what the result is likely to be.
Why should they (the fans) go out and freeze to watch the home team win against teams that don't know what -6 degree conditions are like on a regular basis?

What about the crowds in Sydney yesterday!!!!

Souths and Penrith 6,700!
Manly and Wests 7,000!
Bulldogs and Melbourne 7,250

The Storm won't have any (at least not many) supporters in Sydney, but the first two games are all Sydney affairs!!!!

I feel better about the Raiders crowd now (when there are no NQ supporters attending)... 8,700..... though I really shouldn't!

im all for melbourne staying in the comp
but if ur wondering why ppl arent calling for canberra and cronulla to get the boot...
its because
- everyone is sick of melbourne having crowds less than 10k...
- melbourne probably wouldnt have gone over the 5k mark in that weather

but once again, im all for melbourne... and the cc bid... but i mean its pretty damn obvious why ppl are wanting melbourne gone
