Yep, made this point last year.

Interestingly Hags was questioned by a talkback caller on Big Sports brekky the other day about the club shopping around for some halves as the ones we have are f**ked and he said it was a valid point but until you understand the intricacies of the cap you can't appreciate how hard it is to buy what you really need.

That sort of comment would get anyone else fired in a performance based role.

Seriously, what hope have we got when this is the calibre of people involved in the club.

Other clubs have cap issues such as the Saints and they are actively working to correct it, we just put it in too hard basket.

Exact quote was:

"....That's a valid question. A bit of time in and around the salary cap gives you a little bit of a different appreciation for how that all works and what you'd like to do verses what you can do and all those things are being reviewed and looked at. I guess, to be fair, we've tried to resign and extend a lot of our good young players, people like Sione, Chanel, Pat, Jake, Korbin, Tyler - there's been a whole host of players that are from Newcastle, the Hunter Valley that we're looking to retain and that's an ongoing battle with the dreaded salary cap and what we'd like to do going forward."

Sack players. The NRL own the place. They have to pay them out. Simple. Mullen would be in ESL demand big time if we shopped him. Same with Aku. Same with Tyrone. This club actualky creates hate in it's own supporters. I know former die hards who literally hate the club now for the frustration it has created in them. The complete lack of ambition is the main reason.

He rehearsed that shit. He knew it was coming. Typical arrogance and dismissal of the membership. What a dickhead.

"I've spent all of our cap space on upgrades for the locals so you should be happy, and anyone waiting for a marquee signing is shit out of luck".

We're losing five of the starting thirteen (BJ, Gids, Faalogo, Smith, Scott) and replacing them with Micky Paea. LOL.

It blows my mind how our team can be so close to the salary cap ceiling. Just proves that no one at the club has any idea.

Jesus. Parramatta are right out of salary cap this year, are losing next to no one and managed to spend well over $1.6 Million on 2 players. Don't blame the system - learn how to manage it better!

I often wonder if the salary caps days are numbered. If the cap penalties are more about the clubs simply saying this is bullshit and we are going to sign whoever we can regardless of the penalty. The reason is they know the NRL don't have the bottle to go through the Storm situation again. As soon as Dave Smith sees money leaking he just does whatever it takes to stop that leak. usually it is appeasing sponsorship withdrawal threats. Fines, four docked points and feel free to keep whatever top players you want and kick the lower end earners to the curb to fit under the cap.

What a waste of money. If he was on 200k then noone would hate him. He's on 500k that's why we hate him.
