I am sorry to a certain few, but I can't let this comment pass by.

For someone who has no idea about this situation, that is a c unt of a statement to make. When the true reasons come out, hopefully you will have your hole nearby to slink into.....arsewipe!
I can’t let this comment pass by either.

Sick to death of people who slam others for posting their opinion
As if your opinion is more valuable, more accurate and somehow better than the other.

Your opinion my be correct, however, slamming others and name calling really shows school yard bully mentality. Don’t agree with someone....fine.
However, quit the high and mighty ground attitude.

One thing this whole episode has showed is more than half of fans on here don’t care if he goes.

You have to wonder what effect his imminent departure will have on the squad.
How are other players going to react to that revelation?
I don't buy Widdop just having a casual, "shooting the breeze" type discussion about his possible departure.
Even if he sticks around for 2019 very negative scenario.
It is hard to reconcile terms like "he's our Club Captain", our leader, our inspiration with even the doubt that he will not see out his contract.
Nothing positive about him staying in my view and the sooner we find another solution the better.
Agree with everything you say DP.
As well, how does a private conversation in a club office get leaked unless the parties present being Widdop and management leak it themselves.

Confirms my opinion of our unprofessional club management and Widdop.
A club captain seeking a release 2 years before his contract ends, how the hell is this the right ingredient of a bloke to be our captain?

Captains are meant to bleed for the club, they stay around to help develop the next generation, ours wants to go back to a place 2 years early.
That’s fine, but simply cannot be the captain.

Just another thing that now irks me about him, besides the fact he has never nailed a key game for us.

Are we now in a similar situation Souths and Brisbane are in, we have a integral part of our club wanting out.
The only way i believe we could go is to let Widdop go now. If we want to have a successful year alll parties need to be fully committed.
Johnston or Norman are available so there are replacements out there. Lets hope we do not sit around like we usually do and sought this out now.

If Widdop wants to go the the ESL right now, I would look to sign Norman straight away. There has been a lot of talk about Parra trying to offload Norman and Moses. If we did sign Norman. I would play him halfback and Hunt 5/8. I would have Norman as our game manager and dominate playmaker. Hunt and Norman previously played together at Brissy, so they probably already have a strong bond. Just remember that when Norman was playing halfback at Parra with Gutho 5/8, he was one of the form players in the comp, got a 900K a year contract and was being spoken of as Qld's next halfback. I was never a fan of Norman until I saw him play 5/8. Maybe his formed dipped because he stopped taking the pills?

I expect Johnson to be at Easts in 2020, but on Zero Tackle, a poster said that Johnson will be at Parra next year and so will Shane Flanagon and his son.

Mate, the club and Mary will support him and come out and say this is his Swansong year and what a great captain he is, how they wish him well and how the players will want him to go out a winner, blah blah blah

We are not led by a bloke like the great Frank Facer these days, we are led by a bunch with not much idea, look at 2012- 2018, that says it all.

As for finding a suitable replacement to cover for the eventual departure of Gaz, it will be difficult and I personally can only see a couple of options on the horizon.
For me it would come down to either Brimson from the Titans or Gutherson from the Eels.
Make them an offer they can't refuse!
Some of the other candidates being mentioned only seem a backwards step.

Widdop has been as honest and as forthright as he can be under the circumstances and it should be left at that.
Many just break a contract or cause disruption until they get removed and that is clearly not the case here.
Like him or hate him as a footballer but people should give credit where it is due as to how he has handled his end of this announcement.
Meanwhile the crickets are deafening at the Taj.

This post is the shining star in this thread.

Pay close attention to the last sentence because that is the driver behind this whole situation.

As is everything in this thread - yet you’re happy to run with it.
Not criticising what you believe, it is possible we could have won with Widdop,
However I think back to the semi vs grubs a few seasons earlier, we lost....just....
Widdop could have closed it out for us, but didn’t.

CC it sure would be a big improvement!! Done his time as an apprentice coach with many NRL clubs & now St. Helens in ESL. Hope your on the money as we need some fresh change forward.
I was told that if Mary goes the club is not interested in the old coaches, Holbrook's name was then mentioned along with another of the new bred, sorry don't have his name.

I’m not saying I believe the 13+ comment at all, I’m saying you can’t call that speculation and then be happy to run with all the rampant speculation in this thread. It’s totally hypocritical.
