'Wildcard Weekend' Finals Proposal for 2020

Over the years some pretty stupid ideas have come out of NRL headquarters but this would have to be the absolute worst.

There have been numerous polls conducted on Twitter about this proposal with the results generally about 10% for - 90% against.

I tend to go the other way - have no finals. First past the post has been the best team all year so should be the champions.
It's bloomin obvious. The NRL needs something else for people to focus on including the media apart from well you know the other stuff.......just until game 1 anyway

The NRL are rewarding mediocrity. Teams who finish at 9th and 10th position on the ladder have lost more game than they have won.
Let’s go to a grand final in June and play it at kogarah. dragons will always be in.:grin::joy::pensive:

Chrust or mighty , the silly beggars seem to go backwards instead of forward . The ideas that this mob come up with , honestly why would you have a 10 team semi- bluudy final for , which it actually is . Imbeciles , you couldn’t trust this mob to organize a chook raffle !

Why not have the bottom 4 play off for the spoon also? They could play the wooden spoon grand final on the same day as the GF at the old timeslot of 3pm.
Then the losers have to do a lap of dishonor and the crowd could all throw eggs at them!
Thoughts?

Personally don't mind the idea, as 7-8 are historically 'also ran's'.
Effectively still going to have your top 8, but the six initial qualifiers will have the advantage of a weeks rest, while the punter still has two games to supplement the 'wildcard weekend' off... Bit of a gimmick, but more revenue for the game overall... Depending of coarse on the sponsor fallout over the off-season.

I remember being at Parramatta Stadium for the 7's tournament in 92. We got beat in the grand final. Well the game before the final they played the grand final for the Coca Cola knockout for the under 10's. This was the best 2 under 10 teams in the state from the year before. It was Eagle Vale vs a team from Canberra (it may have been Queanbeayn Kangaroos). Eaglevale were coached by Eric Grothe snr, he may have had Eric Grothe jnr in the team. Well it was a great game and the whole crowd got into it and were cheering tries, or other good plays. Eaglevale won a close game and then the players started doing a lap of honor. The crowd were cheering them on, then they got to the hill area at the Southern end and some people started throwing objects at the Eagle Vale players. Then the rest of the crowd started booing those throwing the objects at the players and they stopped throwing the objects. The Eagle Vale players ended up doing a lap and half of honor. It must have been the highlight of many of those players football career. Being the state champions and getting to do a lap and half of honor in front of a packed house and being cheered on in the process.

The NRL is getting dumber every year, it's actually quiet embarrassing and they wonder why the AFL is kicking their arse year after year.
The AFL is so dumb, they decided to change from the current semi final system that the NRL now uses to the McIntyre system that the NRL used to use. Now that is Dumb.

Vehemently against it.
I despise that word..

Mainly because nearly every time I read in the paper someone is “vehemently denying” charges laid against them, they end up being convicted guilty..

So now the minute I read someone is vehemently denying something, it feels to me like they are lying..

But not you.. you could be telling the truth..

Possibly..

Agree..

They’re much better when someone orates them..

Personally I think they’d be best read by Russell Crowe..

You’d really get the true power and depth of the messages then..

Does ole Russ still gladiate or has he got a proper day job now ?
