hey shire shark, how come u hate birdy so much ay?

It's nothing personal
It's just that I'm a Sharks fan, and Greg Bird offers us absolutely nothing, similar to Jarrad Anderson
The worry with Bird though, is that he doesnt realise his game has severe limitations and he carries on as if he were God's gift to football. He most certainly is not.

Bird needs to kill the ego - and his long midseason stint in divvy last year seems to have done some of that. He played a bit better when he got some first grade games near the end of 2003 so hopefully he turns out OK.

Dallalana killed them my mate who played him on the weekend said. He said Hassan and Dallalana were both awesome.

If Dallalana plays well he could push for a 5/8 spot. I rate him as a better halfback than Sully(but sully is a better all round player). Dally, Sully, Aitken will all push Bird for the number 6.

And SS you didn't always hate Birdy ;-) . Birdy was good in a winning team in 2002.

I think Matty Hilder is a good option at five-eigth. He played really well in trials last year there...I think that's where he should be rather than at lock.

Bird is a total nuff...the defence knows he is gonna dummy and go himself...it's like Nick Graham in his later days with us.

Dallalana is too slow IMO for five-eight, when he was playing half for us last year, he seemed pretty sluggish. He's still got a bit to learn.

True. I took Matt Johns' recommendation on him and used to talk him up, thinking he had potential.

Birdy was good in a winning team in 2002.
He was a stop gap, he was nothing special. Noddy bypassed him all the time. When Matty was playing, the defence was left in two minds because Johns was on the other side of the ruck to Noddy and he often came up with something tricky and a few good tries.

I saw the light in the game we lost to Canberra at home last year. No less than SIX crucial errors or penalties at crucial times. It was always him. Go back and watch the tape, it was one of the worst games I've seen someone play.

That put my spotlight on him. And I've watched him get the ball at second receiver and crab across field, like Dykes used to do, then dummy and step right into the defensive line. There's no kicking game there nor variety. I dont rate him in defence either and he doesnt have much pace off the line. I could disregard these problems to some degree if he knew how to pass, but he doesnt! And the scary thing is, he thinks he is that good that he doesnt NEED to pass!

And the funny thing is, during that game, the channel 9 time team were talking him up like a god in the 1st 10 mins after he scored

"if there's one thing going for bird, its that he's not only a great attacker, but he's a great defender"

seconds later the shirt grabber dropped 1000 balls and missed a 1000 tackles.

Yep cheese he scored first from memory I think?

I didnt see the Nine telecast because I was at the game but that just goes to show how little those idiots on 9 know.

Birdy found his shoulder after his stint in PL last year but lost it during the 7s.

I will still stand by him. If he can tackle again move him into the backrow where he will not have to pass

I'm pretty sure he did score first, because a certain someone on the hill had some coin on him for first tryscorer...

Unfortunately it wasn't me :(

yup, he scored 1st, on the left side of the ruck with a decentish step close to the line
